17 - Rooftop Conversations & Apologies

I think I fell asleep in the roof, because I was woken up by some strong, desperate knocks on the metal door that was the only entrance to here. The knocks were followed by a worried, desperate, high-pitched, Doncaster voice I knew all too well.

“Zayn? Zayn! Are you there?! Did you kill yourself?! Zayn! Oh my Lord! Zayn!” he screeched, and if I were on all my senses I would already be laughing at him.

I moaned and stood up from the awkward position I was in, I had curled up into fetal position, like I always did. I stretched and scratched my eyes not carefully, which was a terrible idea since they felt swollen, maybe because I had been crying. I took a deep breath, the air had turned cold and I was hungry.

The knocks on the door continued. They were more desperate now, if it was possible. “Zayn!? Zayn! Please tell me you did not kill yourself here! Zayn!” I heard a loud thump, which could not be anything else than Louis throwing himself against the door, trying to tumble it down.

I rolled my eyes at his dramatic way of thinking things had turned out and walked towards the door. Louis could be so naïve sometimes! I opened the door quickly though, I did not want him hurting himself. The door was heavy and strong, and if he continued to throw himself against it the most probable outcome was him dislocating his arm.

“I did not kill myself, Louie,” I mumbled, still feeling numb as he rushed into the roof.

“Oh my Lord! Thank you!” he hurriedly said, hugging me desperately. I could not help but chuckle. He could make everything look so much like a movie.

“Chill down, man.” I patted his back, not being able to ignore the warmth that spread through me once I realized he did care about me and my safety,. But most importantly, me, he cared about me. And I would be lying if I said that did not cheer me up and make me feel special.

“Chill down?! You went missing for four hours, Zayn! Four freaking hours! And given how impulsive and trouble-maker you tend to be when you freak out and have melt downs, you could be anywhere, or do anything. So we were all really worried…” he ranted while clutching to his shirt, his hands positioned over his chest. I smiled, tuning out after the sentence in which he said they were all worried about me though, I could not stop thinking about that and smiling like a fool. They cared about me. I suddenly felt like a bloody idiot for doubting it, for doubting them, for doubting us. We were a team, and I could not go around fighting them.

If only Kaylie could disappear so we were all back to normality.

“You were all worried?” I asked, not even caring if he had finished ranting already, I wanted to hear him say that again. But I was doubtful though, I was not sure who he meant by all. “Who is all?” I hesitantly asked.

“The lads and me. Oh, and Louise and Baylie. And of course Baby Lux,” he responded with a warm smile as he finally took in his surroundings, appreciating the beautiful view that the tall building offered.

“Baylie? Who is Baylie?” I questioned amused. He could not even learn the names right. Oh Louie, so clueless.

“The nanny!” he replied as if obvious while rolling his eyes.

“Louis…the nanny’s name is Kaylie,” I retorted as I chuckled. I took a deep breath while resting once again my slowly awakening body against the railing, happy to have him next to me making me laugh. A good, hearty laugh was exactly what I needed right now.
