It had been a few days, a few days of relentless heat pounding down upon the camp. The grass was beginning to wilt and tinge brown under the rays of the hot sun. All the hot weather was causing more activity to take care of the fields and that was causing more attention from the dead, which meant the fence that surrounded the property needed tending to and making sure there was no damage. A task in which Emmy was happy to take. The glowing yellow rays were beginning to peek over the trees it was the best time to start work before the day became too hot and unbearable. The usual pale skin of Emmy had been tarnished with a sunburn, the red tinge was sore but easy enough for her to dismiss, she didn't have much of a say in the matter anyway.

Before her start, to the day the brunette decided to stop at the infirmary. A coffee cup in hand with the warm brew steaming inside the mug as she entered the small room. As usual, there was Brady, her head resting on the cot just beside Scott's unconscious body, the blonde curls in a mess scattered across the white blankets. "Morning" Emmy whispered placing the cup down on the small table beside her best friend who was now stirring.

"What time is it?" Brady groaned.

"Early... I figured you would be here asleep though" The brunette answered as she stood by the bed watching Brady rub roughly at her face still tired face.

"Up early again, Em?" Brady spoke as she stifled a yawn.

"Well there is a lot to do around here" Emmy gave a shrug of her slender shoulders.

"Em..." Brady perched herself up onto the palm of her hand as her elbow sat on the cot. Her emerald eyes focused on the deeply thinking Emmy "it's okay if you're upset about what happened still..."

"I'm fine"

"How many more times am I going to have to hear you say that and not believe you?" Brady questioned.

"I'm fine, him being bitten and coming back into camp" Emmy shook her head "we have kids here, elderly. They could have been hurt" apart of her argued with herself that she was right. She was right because he was bitten but he wasn't one of the dead when she killed him and that still sat like a weight in her gut.

"I still don't believe you're fine"

"Do you need anything else?" Emmy quickly changed the subject something she tended to do to avoid a conversation.

"Nope, weirdly Kai offered to bring breakfast up for me" Brady answered.

"Kai? What does he want?" the first thought that crossed Emmy's mind.

"Well, he hasn't been able to come up and see Scott much. You know how close they are" Brady explained reaching out for her coffee cup and letting the warmth engulf her hand as she took the cup into her clutch.

"Right, I forgot they were out there together before they got here. Hard to tell that he's been worried" Emmy spoke before she began stepping across the tiled floor.

"I guess some people don't like to show how they feel" Emmy couldn't help but roll her eyes at the obviously pointed response.

"I better get going. The trucks are heading out the back soon" Emmy spoke as she approached the doorway.

"Thanks for the coffee" Brady called after her before the brunette disappeared into the hallway.

"Morning" Emmy spoke as soon as she got outside the brick building coming face to face of the scruffy face of Kai.

"Can never get enough of me can ya Em" he shot a playful wink to the brunette.

"I was here seeing Brady, Kai" she simply shook her head at his usual playfulness "here to bring Brady her breakfast" she questioned looking to the plate full of food in his hand.

"Well lady has to eat and.. Isn't food away to a woman's heart?" he joked.

"No... The correct quote is a way to a man's heart is through his stomach" Emmy answered.

"Well I tried" he gave a careless shrug.

"Can you be serious for like two minutes?" Emmy questioned her eyebrows raised.

"Now where would the fun be in that?" a playful smirk crept its way onto his lips.

"Kai.." Emmy gave a small smile to the young sandy blonde-haired man. The tattoos surrounding his neckline exposed from the barely done up deep blue button-up shirt.

"Yeah?"

"Thank you"

His eyes shot down to the plate before looking back to Emmy "Anything for my best friend's girl" he replied but was quick to avert his gaze over his seriousness.

"I knew you were sweet under there" Emmy couldn't help but let out a laugh.

"So... We going to make out now or..." a cheeky grin graced his lips once again.

"And moments over... Bye" she shook her head hearing him laugh as she walked away.

Emmy stepped along the dirt path to where the trucks were parked. Going to the back fence the best way out there was to drive it was too far to walk and that far from camp was a good way to avoid Troy and that was what Emmy wanted at that moment. The guilt of taking a life was gnawing at her and the heavy load of secrets from Troy were taking its toll on her mind. She liked Troy, he had become her friend and she genuinely enjoyed his company so everything about what he had done was definitely hard to swallow.

Most of the trucks had left by the time she had walked down, the sun had seemed to creep up that little more but she breathed a breath of relief when she saw the last truck packed and ready to drive off up the dirt tracks. She swung the backpack from her back and carried it in a firm clutch.

"Thank God you're still here. I thought I missed everyone" She spoke tossing her bag into the Tub tray on the back of the pickup before walking over to the passenger door to freeze in place. All her efforts were worthless.

"Seems like your coming with me," Troy said but he couldn't even hide the smug grin on his face

"Seems like your coming with me," Troy said but he couldn't even hide the smug grin on his face.

"I ah... I can wait for the next one" Emmy took a step away from the door.

"I'm the last one" he stated and nudged his head for her to get in "come on get in" and with a groan Emmy yanked open the passenger door to be stuck in a truck with the person she wanted to see least of all at that moment.
