It had been over two hours now further out than any of them had been since arriving at the camp but nothing was different just destruction everywhere. Hollowed out homes, abandoned buildings nothing but lifeless towns. They kept away from main roads and stuck to the back streets trying to avoid as much danger as they could. Troy seemed to know where he was going since he studied the map as though it was the DaVinci code so he kept a close eye on every turn they made. Emmy sat in the back seat next to Chris like she always tended to do while Kai carried on in the front as he always did.

"Why didn't Brae come?" Kai's sudden question knocked Emmy from thought.

"I umm..." her fingers brushed over the paper in her pocket knowing the exact reason yet another secret held in the chambers of Emmy's mind "I don't know. I don't think she felt up to it" Emmy answered but Troy caught her stammering which automatically caught his interest and Emmy knew it seeing the blue piercing eyes now watching her in the backseat before turning back to the road.

"Hey man, let's pull over soon yeah? I need to chuck a piss" Kai turned to Troy as he spoke.

"No, we don't have the time" Troy replied flatly.

"Come on..."

"Either hold it or piss out the window" Troy instructed.

"Dude!..."

"Troy.." the sound of Emmy's interruption caught his attention. Looking to the brunette through the rearview mirror whose brown eyes went wide. Without another word, he knew what she was saying. It bothered him as he couldn't help but grit his teeth and reluctantly agree.

"Thanks, mum" Kai flashed the girl a wide smile "dad up here is being mean" his words caused Chris to stifle a giggle.

"Kai you're older than me" Emmy simply replied.

"Yeah but you're kinda like the mum" he simply answered to which she rolled her eyes as Troy pulled the truck to the side of the road and got out as soon as it was parked.

"Everyone back to the truck in ten or I'm leaving your ass" his fierce blue eyes glancing to everyone.

"Yikes... Daddy is mad" Kai whispered to the pair in the back seat causing Chris to once again laugh.

"Don't worry about it" Emmy dismissed as she opened the door and stepped out onto the paved road followed by the others. Unlike everyone else though Emmy remained by the vehicle letting her slender back lean against the truck door the dust settling onto her denim jacket. She mainly wanted to get to their destination especially now for Brady but she wasn't going to let anyone know that so as usual Emmy she did what was best for the group.

"We don't have time to be here long" Troy spoke his voice low as he leaned himself down onto the hood of the truck beside her as he anxiously eyed everyone. There was a sort of unsettled part in Troy when he was out of his comfort zone.

"We won't be long.. We did agree to breaks Troy" she turned her gaze to the tall figure beside her who was focused on the watch on his wrist as he seemed to be timing their stop.

"I know... I know" his eyes remaining on the silver watch.

"Troy..." Emmy reached out her hand covering the timepiece her fingers taking a hold of his wrist which caught him off guard his blue eyes turned to her with a face of surprise "we will get there just try to relax just for a second."

"Relax huh?" a smirk curled the corner of one side of his mouth "in a world like this, kind of a funny thing to ask."

"Fine, how about pull the stick out of your ass for a minute?" she couldn't help but smile at her words.

"You're joking with me again?" his eyebrows seemed to rise in interest "Cause you know.. I ah..." he rubbed a hand at the back of his neck before his eyes wandered as though checking to see if anyone was around before turning back to the brunette "I do um.. Miss the way things were... You know before."

"Yeah..." Emmy let her hand fall from his wrist and her head fall back to rest against the caged window "so do I."

His eyes fell to the ground for the moment as his boots scuffed against the loose rocks on the road "You still haven't told anyone anything" he turned back to face her "you still got my back

"I've always got your back..."

"Does that mean..." his eyes observed her as though trying to figure it out himself instead of having to ask "...that mean we are good?"

"We are where we are, Troy..." it was a vague response but even Emmy didn't know. Day to day they were friends they conversed and even joked and sometimes just for a moment Emmy would forget he was the young man who committed so many atrocities, ended lives and even destroyed his own home and it was a question that plagued her own mind could she get past what he had done.

"Righty kids I've drained the main vein let's go" Kai practically bounced in front of the serious-looking pair "shit did I interrupt a brooding session..."

Emmy rolled her eyes as she usually did with Kai "No, Kai some of us can just speak without every word being a joke. It's called having a general conversation."

He dismissed them with a wave of his hand "where is the fun in that. Always need a laugh guys especially in this shit storm of a world."

"He isn't wrong, still some fun to have in this world" Troy agreed his hands pressing against the metal of the hood.

"See Troy boy gets it" Kai gave the other blonde a pat on the shoulder while Troy let out a light scoff "you need to stop thinking so much about everything it will ruin your pretty face all that damn thinking" he leaned over to place a kiss to the top of the brunettes head before flashing a wide grin "why do you think I don't think so hard huh? Ruin my beautiful face" he spoke gesturing to his face causing Emmy to laugh while the others began walking back to the truck.

"Looks like we can head off then," Emmy said signalling to the boys of the others approaching.

"Righto, looks like you got your wish timekeeper. We can shoot off" Kai gave Troy another pat on the shoulder before leaving the pair to the other side of the large vehicle. Emmy looked over at the tall ash-blonde pushing himself to stand up straight, blinking his eyes rapidly as though trying to keep himself awake before turning to her. She was understanding him a lot more these days how his mind seemed to work in all its confusion, morbid fascination and at times sadistic brutality but sometimes just sometimes he was normal smiled, laughed and was like any other young man so with that thought Emmy gave a smile a thin simple smile but a gesture none the less to him before joining Kai in the truck ready to set off once again.
