The Power to RESET

(Frisk's POV)

I didn't go to school today as I had some ambassadorial work to do. It involved the idea to integrate monster history into the school system as, at the very least, an elective course for college. Anyway, I had some makeup homework to do.

Toriel came in with a sandwich and a glass of milk. "How was the meeting?" She asked.

I smiled at her. Although everyone thought of her as Queen of Monsters, she didn't attend the meeting because she had a job as a teacher at Aria's school. Besides, Asgore was there.

"The others said that they would need to think about it," I said. "However, the President said that there was a good chance that it would come to pass."

"Really? That's wonderful!" Toriel said. "Now, why don't you have your snack and finish your work?"

I nodded, and Toriel left me to finish my homework. Before I did, however, I pulled up my menu.

I had 15 Attack, 15 Defense—both from my Sword and Shield of Determination—20 Health Points, 0 Execution Points, and 1 Level of Violence. There was another thing as well, but not a stat.

The RESET button, as always when I pulled up my menu, was there, tempting me to press it. If I pressed it, I would take away everyone's happy ending. Aria would no longer exist, Asriel would turn back into Flowey, and monsterkind would be trapped Underground once more.

I closed the menu, taking the button with it. I had only RESET to save Asriel, and this resulted in me doing 9 True Pacifist Runs. Every time I did a Neutral Run, I would turn it into a True Pacifist Run. I would never do a Genocide Run.

There was a knock on the door.

"Sans, if you think I'm going to RESET, then you've got the wrong Frisk!" I joked.

The door opened, and my siblings came in.

"RESET?" Asriel asked. "What do you mean, RESET? Didn't you give that ability up?"

"Don't ask me," Chara replied. "Even with my SOUL whole, I don't have the sheer Determination Frisk does."

"Frisk?" Aria asked.

I turned to my little sister. "Yeah?"

"When we saw Dr. W.D. Gaster that one time," she said, "he told me that you had reset several times. Is that true?"

I sighed. "Yes," I said sincerely. "I did RESET 9 times."

"Why?" She asked. "Not saying that because I'm mad at you, but I just want to know."

I looked in the distance, then began my story.

"After my first True Pacifist Run," I said, "I RESET to get the same experience again. I discovered some new things, and the puzzles weren't as hard as before. Also, I did things a little differently, and took time to appreciate the surroundings. I got the same ending as before, including Asriel turning back into Flowey. I RESET a third time, this time with a different goal. I wanted to save Asriel once and for all. In total, it took 9 Pacifist Runs and no Genocide Runs. Even then, I didn't save Azzy. Chara did."

Aria looked at Chara in amazement. "You did?"

Chara nodded. "No need to thank me."

The little goat girl turned back to me. "How can you RESET?"

"Well," I explained, "my Determination lets me access star-shaped things called SAVE Points. I touch one of them, and a SAVE File is created. If I die, my File automatically LOADs my last SAVE, and I'm back at the SAVE Point. I can also RESET at will, going right back to the beginning. Nobody remembers anything. So basically, I can reverse time." I gave a Sans-style grin.

Asriel and Chara nodded, while Aria looked stunned.

"That's so cool!" Aria cried. "It's too bad we'd forget everything, though. By the way, did you give up your ability to RESET?"

I smiled. "Believe it or not, I never actually lost that power."

Aria gaped. "So you might RESET without warning?"

I set my jaw and said the truth. "While I still have the power to RESET, I choose not to. I only RESET out of a desire to SAVE Asriel. After a while, I finally have the happy ending I was looking for. Asriel and Chara are alive, and Mom and Dad are back together." I relaxed before saying the next part. "And there's another factor that makes me even less willing to RESET."

Aria looked confused. "What's that?"

I smiled, placing my hands on Aria's shoulders. "You. I have you as a sister, and you're just about the cutest goat I could have as a sister. Fitting, since Asriel was the cutest goat I had as a brother."

Asriel chuckled. "We're the only goats you've had as siblings."

I smiled. "Point is, I'm not willing to take all that away. I could never move on from that. I have such a wonderful family, and I love it so much."

My siblings all gave me a powerful hug. "We love you too, Frisk," Asriel said.

"I could only imagine how hard it must be, resisting the temptation to RESET on a daily basis," Aria said.

I laughed. "I just have to stay Determined. Now, if you excuse me, I have some homework to finish."

Hi guys, FluffyBoiAsriel here. I've noticed a pattern in AUs where Asriel is alive again: Frisk gives up their ability to RESET every time. So I decided to buck the trend. Because Chara, and not Frisk, gave up half their SOUL to sustain Goatbro before he got his own SOUL back, Frisk's ability to RESET wasn't affected at all. DreemurrTale!Chara also has less Determination that DT!Frisk, and can't reset, even with their SOUL complete. I imagine DT!Frisk has to resist the temptation to RESET every day—or every time they pull up their menu—but resisting has gotten easier as time went on. They believe that they shouldn't take away such a happy ending by RESETing, so why bother? Just wanted to point that out to you all.

Stay Determined. -FluffyBoiAsriel
