(Asriel's POV)

Chaos Saber clashed against Psionic Scythe as Kirin locked blades with me in yet another sparring match. I knew that, if this current match was anything like our previous sparring matches, one of two things would happen: Either Kirin would run out of power and collapse from overexertion, or I would simply overpower him. In both cases, it would be another win in my streak.

"When will you learn that you can't defeat a Boss Monster?" I asked, shoving Kirin backward with  my Chaos Saber's blade. I followed up with a slash wave of rainbow fire, but Kirin intercepted with a psychic-energy barrier thrown up just in time. The black dragon monster then retaliated with a psychic slash wave of his own. I was prepared for this, and blocked it with a Star Blazing shield.

What I wasn't prepared for was Kirin teleporting behind me and unleashing a psionic repulsion attack that sent me sprawling. Not letting up, he followed up with a series of psionic energy blasts that followed me, detonating on contact.

"Nice one!" Crystal, Kirin's twin sister, shouted. "You can do it!"

"Asriel!" Aria called. "Don't let your guard down!"

Chara, Frisk and Kris all shouted their encouragement to me, and this bolstered my resolve.

"I'm not done yet!" I shouted at my opponent.

Kirin's eyes blazed with excitement. "Good. I was hoping to try something out." With that, his scythe's blade changed color from bright red to fiery orange. This was my cue to move to avoid dodging the slashes by moving through them.

Then, something strange happened. My SOUL turned bright orange, but I didn't feel any different.

"You feeling run down?" Kirin asked, sounding genuinely concerned. "Perhaps a little TLC is in order." With that, he produced a few more psionic spheres, this time, shining grass-green.

"Aw, heck yeah!"I cheered. Green attacks heal the one that they hit, so this would be perfect to restore my strength. "Hit me with them!"

"My pleasure," Kirin said, sending the spheres my way. I hit them excitedly and...

Pain rocketed through my body, causing me to cry out. "What gives!?"

Kirin gazed at me intensely. "You told me to hit you with my green attack. Guess things got turned on their head."

"So that's what Rin's been cooking up!" Crystal said excitedly.

"What are you talking about?" Chara asked. "Green attacks aren't supposed to hurt the target!"

Kirin's scythe's blade then turned sky-blue. I stood still as a statue to avoid the hit. To my utter shock, this did nothing to help me evade the attacks, and every slash hit its mark.

"There's no way those slashes hit!" Aria cried. "Azzy didn't move at all! How could the attack hit him!?"

Kirin unleashed a series of orange slashes, but no matter how fast I moved through them, I was struck with every one.

"This can't be happening!" Frisk cried. "Kris! What's going on?"

"I don't know!" Kris exclaimed. "I don't know the nature of monster attacks the way you do!"

This is crazy! I thought. Those were normal blue and orange and green attacks, but they still hurt me even though I did the required things to avoid getting hit by them! The only thing that changed was... I looked down at my SOUL, still shining orange like fire. This gave me an idea. Kirin was charging another series of orange slashes. Now or never, I thought.
