8 - Break

Despite their busy schedules at work, Celestine and AJ ensure to make time for each other before the latter leaves for South Korea. He noticed the extra clinginess of his girlfriend and he is definitely enjoying it. He keeps on telling her, if he could only bring her with him, he will definitely tag her along without second thought.

Being away from each other for several weeks is not new to AJ and Celestine. They have been through this set-up several times whenever work or personal matters arise. But despite being into this kind of situation before, they could not control themselves to be sad.

"Dad, will it be fine if I take a break kahit three days lang?" Celestine asked RJ while they were having lunch together.

"Why, may problema ba?" RJ asked.

"I just think I need a breather. Sobrang toxic these past few days. I feel so exhausted." Celestine said.

"Anak, if you take a break at work everytime you get exhausted wala kang matatapos na trabaho. I remember before the mall project started humingi ka rin ng 'me time'. Sabi mo you want to recharge and I gave it to you. Now you are asking for another break. Tell me honestly, are you loosing interest in your job?" RJ asked.

"Hindi na sa ganon, Dad. Sobrang toxic lang talaga nitong mga nakaraang araw. I thought you gave instruction that I will concentrate on the mall project, eh bakit pati yung delay nung subdivision construction ako pa rin ang nag-handle?" Celestine said.

"I don't see anything wrong with that. Kapag ikaw na ang nandito sa position ko, hindi lang tatlong projects ang magkakaproblema nang sabay-sabay, mas malamang na mas marami pa sa tatlo. Besides, hindi naman ikaw lang ang nag-handle ng issue, they just borrow some of your resources. Next week naman, ibabalik na yung mga taong hiniram sa iyo" RJ said.

"Exactly, may time line akong sinusunod for the mall project, and because of that resources lending, affected ang timeline ko. You know how much I hate delays on my projects, Dad." Celestine lamented.

"Why not come home for a few days, go out with your Mom. Why not visit the salon with her? I'm sure she misses your bonding time." RJ said.

"I can do that on weekend, Dad. What I want is to leave the country for at least three days." Celestine said.

"Saan ka naman pupunta?" RJ asked.

"Kahit saan, basta I can clear my mind." Celestine said. "Gusto ko pagbalik ko dito sa Manila, clear na ang mind ko at wala na ang inis ko sa mga incompetent project managers. Pwede sa Singapore, or sa Japan or maybe, South Korea. Sige na po, Dad, payagan mo na ako." Celestine replied.

"I am beginning to be disappointed with that attitude, Celestine." RJ said. "That is very immature for the future president of this company. Besides, I don't think your Mom will agree to the idea." RJ reprimanded her.

"It was Mom who gave me the idea." Celestine replied and she gains a sharp stare from RJ. "I am telling the truth, Dad. Mom called me last night to check on me and I told her I am so exhausted at work. Sya ang nagsabi na mag-break daw muna ako sa work kahit three days lang. Sinusunod ko lang ang suggestion ni Mommy, Dad." she explained.

"And you think with the mere mention of your Mom, I will give in to your request?" RJ said and Celestine nodded. "Let's meet halfway." RJ further said.

"What do you mean, Dad?" Celestine suprisedly asked.

"I am set to fly to Beijing for a convention on Thursday. If you want to leave the country to breathe, why not attend to that convention in my behalf." RJ suggested.

"If I attend the convention on Thursday does it mean I have to fly back to Manila on Friday?" Celestine asked.

"You can go back to Manila on Saturday, bahala ka kung ano ang gusto mong gawin after the convention." RJ replied.

"Does it mean I can go to South Korea after the convention?" Celestine asked while her eyes are sparkling.

"Why do I have this feeling that this break you were asking is not about being exhausted. I remember the last time na inaya mo kami ng Mommy mo sa Korea, sabi mo gusto mo lang magpahinga, yun pala may motocross competition na gusto mong panoorin. Tell me honestly, anong competition na naman ng motocross ang pupuntahan mo sa South Korea at ginawa mo pang dahilan ang delayed projects natin?" RJ asked.

"There is no major motocross competition, Dad. I just feel like going to Japan or South Korea." Celestine replied.

"Then why not go to Japan instead of Korea, mas maganda sa Japan kesa sa Korea." RJ said.

"Next time na lang ang Japan, Dad." Celestine said.

"With an answer like that, I am certain that there is more than being exhausted. Nag-usap na tayo about motocross driving right?" RJ said.

"Nag-iingat naman na ako, Dad. I promise hindi na mauulit yung aksidente." Celestine said

"Sinasabi ko na nga ba eh, this trip is about that extreme sport again." RJ said.

"So we have a deal na, Dad. Wala nang bawian, ako na lang ang magsasabi sa secretary mo to arrange my flight on Wednesday evening. At ako na rin ang pupunta sa convention in  China. Pero hindi mo ako mapipigil na mag side trip sa Korea." She further said.

"Are you sure you'll be fine going to China alone? Isama mo kaya yung EA ko." RJ said.

"I'm a big girl now, Dad. I can take care of myself. One day lang naman ang convention, so no need to tag along your executive assistant. Also, ayoko ng parang may nanny na lagi kong kasama." Celestine said.

"Just promise that you'll take care of yourself. I know nasa tamang edad ka na but you cannot blame me for worrying. Especially lately that you often prefers to be alone." RJ said.

"I promise to take care of myself. Thanks, Dad, ano ang gusto mong pasalubong?" Celestine said.

"I just want you to fly back home safe and sound." RJ said.

"Noted Mr. President." Celestine replied.
