"PRINCESS Rapunzel! (Y/n)!" Lance raced to the two of you, interrupting your discussion about the trick-or-treating of the kingdom. He held a large pillowcase in his hands and he showed it to both of you.
"What is that?" you asked him. It seemed like just a plain cotton pillowcase, nothing unusual or wrong with it at all.
"It's not what's there, it's what isn't there!" Lance exclaimed. Lance used the pillowcase as tissue and sobbed into the fabric. "My precious candy!"
"Your candy was stolen?" you said, laughing from the small thing that troubled Lance. Rapunzel nudged you. You pretended to cough, "Sorry."
"Lance, we will find your candy, we promise," Rapunzel said, and then got her satchel out to retrieve any clues that they had found. "In the meantime, is it okay if I keep this?"
"Sunshine!" Eugene exclaimed as he ran towards the three of you. "We all lost our candy!" Eugene showed Rapunzel the candy that was missing from his bag, Catalina's, Keira's, and Varian's.
"That's very strange, Lance here was just telling us all about his going missing," Rapunzel said and Lance continued to sob.
"We will get to the bottom of the this," you assured everyone.
"Just you two?" Keira asked.
"All of us are coming," Varian argued.
"I guess you could tag along," you said jokingly to Varian. You were holding Lance's pillowcase and you saw something on it, a thin hair, but still strong. It was almost silver, and it was barely visible on the bright-colored linen. Almost like, no, it couldn't be. (This is a mystery, get solving!)
"(Y/n), did you find something?" Rapunzel asked.
"It's a white hair." you showed it to all of them.
"Shorty?" Rapunzel and Eugene asked at the same time. Then they both laughed at their thought. (we stan Shorty)
You saw a shimmer of something in the distance. It was a wrapper, one for candy, like the ones that were stolen. "Wrappers!" you exclaimed.
"A whole bunch of them too!" Eugene said, "Nice going kiddo." You wanted to tell him not to call you "kiddo", but you were too invested in the chase. There was an entire trail of wrappers leading someplace.
"Where is all of this candy taking us?" Rapunzel asked. The wrappers seemed to go on without end, then there was an outburst of the trail and it jetted off into three different parts. "I guess we're going to have to each take a different path. Eugene and Lance, Catalina, Keira, and me, and (Y/n) and Varian."
You kept following the wrappers past the fountain in Corona and saw them lead to an alleyway. "What is this place?" you asked as you dropped into a tunnel.
"They were invented by Der Sonne, or at least in his time. Rapunzel and I went here once to sneak underneath the palace."
"That's strange, she's never mentioned them," you said as you continue walking through the tunnels, the wrappers ended at a trap door. You saw two glowing yellow eyes at the bottom of the hole.
Varian found a wood plank that you helped him lower into the hole, you waited for the creature to pounce at your face, but when it came up it went straight to his shoulder. "It's just Ruddiger," he told you.
"You have a pet raccoon?" you asked, but Varian didn't answer because there was a bunch of stones coming loose from the roof. He quickly pushed both of you out of the way. "Thanks," you said quickly, trying not to dwell on the moment. You continued through the tunnels and came to a larger opening where you saw all of the others.
"All of the wrappers lead us here," Rapunzel said, now reunited with Pascal. Eugene and Lance also had found Maximus. The tunnels only had one opening that they hadn't explored yet and it had another trail of wrappers. Multi-colored pieces decorated the stones of the tunnels as the group got closer and closer to the culprit.
The tunnel came to an end and you saw a pile of the wrappers laid upon the ground. "Dad?" Eugene asked, his father was enjoying all of the festive candy, "You took all of the candy?"
"This wasn't just for anyone?"
"No!" Angry said in a mad tone. She was going to show Edmund a piece of her mind, more like a piece of her fist, but Rapunzel held her back.
"I am so sorry for all of the confusion. Here have what's left." Edmund said, nudging the bag closer to everyone else. Eugene reached for the bag.
"Caramels?" Eugene said as he peered into the bag, "Gross! You can keep the rest." Eugene said, but Lance had already grabbed the bag and was almost swallowing them whole. (Eugene it's now fandom canon that you hate caramels lol)
"Sorry we couldn't save your candy." you apologized to everyone.
"It's fine, at least we got to spend it with everyone," Varian said, accepting the apology.
"I personally wanted the candy more than a wild goose chase, but yeah, this was fun," Keira said.
"Can we do this next Halloween?" Catalina asked, and everyone laughed.

This had literally no VarianxReader aspect, I honestly just wanted to write a mystery. Currently typing this with fingerless lace gloves, as the edgy child I am.
