ALL OF THIS TAKES PLACE BEFORE THE SERIES IN ANOTHER WORLD TECHNICALLY

-------------------------------------

WHEN Varian was just a little kid, his mother had been friends with an evil sorcerer that put a curse on Varian. The evil sorcerer had told his mother that if the boy ever said, 'I love you', he would experience heartache so terrible that he heart would stop beating. Ulla, his mother didn't believe in the curse really, after all she didn't care much for magic. In the act of testing the evil sorcerer, it cost her life.

Quirin has lost his wife and he wasn't going to lose his child, realizing what the sorcerer could cause. He put up precautions to keep Varian inside. He taught him from home and he wouldn't let Varian come with him to many things. His father didn't tell him much about the curse, but he never ever would dare say the words, 'I love you' to his son. He was worried that his son may say the words back. He could never risk that.

One day, Quirin woke up to no sign of Varian in the house. It seemed like the boy wanted to branch out. He frantically looked around for any sign of Varian, when he spotted the boy he saw another person with him. "Varian!" His father yelled.

         "Who's that?" you asked Varian.

"That's my dad. I'm probably in trouble, I'm not allowed outside."

"Wait, not allowed-" You were about to finish, but Varian ran away before you could finish your sentence. You guessed that it didn't change the fact that you could come over. The next day you packed up some homemade treats and made your way to Varian's house.

"Hi!" You said when you saw Varian's father at the front door.

"You're not allowed to come in." He told you.

"But I'm one of Varian's friends." You insisted.

"Varian doesn't have any friends." Quirin stubbornly told you, trying to close the door.

"No friends?" You asked, semi-pleading to come in. You saw that it somewhat hurt Quirin that he had left his son alone for so many years.

His father let you come inside. You place your basket of treats on one of the tables and looked around the small, but large for Old Corona house. "(Y/n)!" Varian said, when he realized that you had entered the house.

"Your father allowed me to come."

"Thanks, dad." He said, giving his father a hug. Quirin was a little bit taken aback by that.

Afterwards you joined Varian in his lab, where you realized that he had a very unique interest for alchemy. "This is so cool!" You told him. All of the different glasses set up in different arrays was so peculiar, yet so interesting.

"Well, there's not much to do when you're trapped inside all day." He explained. "But I enjoy it, don't get me wrong. I just wish that I could help people, you know?"

"Varian, I love this!" You said, gesturing to the entirety of the lab.

"What?" He asked you. He didn't know what the word love meant, so he was confused when you had used it in your sentence. "What is love?"

"What?" Now you were confused. He seriously didn't know about the word love at all. "Well, love is a word that basically means that you adore or like something." You told him.

"I've never heard of it." He told you, he continued doing work as if the word wasn't a huge deal to learn about. Quirin was listening to the conversation, but he wasn't exactly picking up on everything.

"You've never had someone tell you that they-" You were about to ask, but then Quirin burst in the room as fast as he could.

"It's time for (Y/n) to go." Quirin told the two of you.

              Varian whined, "What? Why?"

"I'll just leave. It's fine." You waved goodbye and then left Quirin and Varian alone together in Varian's lab. You went back home heartbroken. That meant that his own father had never said, 'I love you' to the boy. Did his father even love him? You knew that you certainly did.

"Dad? What was that?" Varian said, a little bit angry and a little bit sad.

"I have something to tell you, son." He sat down with Varian in the table that was near their small kitchen. Varian was silent, he was still a little bit hard for him to understand why he had just pushed away (Y/n) that easily. They did nothing after all. You did nothing. "When your mother was younger she broke the heart of a sorcerer. This evil sorcerer came by our house on the day you were born and what he did was terrible. I never shared this because I didn't think you were old enough."

Varian shook his head, "Magic isn't real though."

"But it is." Varian went silent, he'd solved it, his father had gone crazy. "That sorcerer killed your mother and placed a curse on you. A curse that I've tried to protect you from for so many years. The evil sorcerer that we do not dare speak his name said that if you were ever to say the words, 'I love you', your heart would stop beating.

Varian looked at his father sadly, "What? No. I don't believe you."

"It's true." Quirin told him. "Why do you think I've never said I lo-. Why do you think I've never told you that?"

He wanted to cry and run as far away as possible. Varian walked away into his room, where he lay on the bed in silence. He looked up at the ceiling thinking about you. He had this wonderful phrase taught to him today, but he couldn't use it, or else he'd die.

Eventually months passed and he didn't say it. Weeks after the first meeting in Varian's house, Quirin finally let you back in as long as he could monitor everything you two did. Varian always seemed insecure when you were around. "You have something you're not telling me." You said.

"What do you mean?" Varian asked you. He clearly knew what you meant, but he wasn't sure if he could trust you with something like that yet.

"You seem secretive." you told him.

                  "It's nothing really."

"Alright, but you can tell me anything i'm here for you. I love you." You told him.

He looked shocked, but mostly sad. "I-...I um like you a lot." He said back.

"You could have just told me about it." You said turning away. Everything was adding up. "You can't say 'I love you'."

"How did you figure out?" Varian asked.

"Your dad interrupting me, getting mad at me, you just now." You listed.

"But you're not mad or upset?"

"No, if you can't say it because you're cursed, I'd rather have you than three words." You told him. It sounded a lot better in your head. Varian would have said I love you, but instead he gave you a hug and placed his head against yours.

"I promise that I will be there for you always." You smiled faintly. That's the only promise you needed.
