to infinity and beyond (toy story 4)

- Nine Years Ago -

"Is everyone here?" You heard whispers from the hallway. You decided not to move until they came to you. Life was difficult being a toy you had to make sure when it was worth the close call or when it wasn't. You stared out of the window from your place near the glass, clutching your blue shepherd's staff. The rain was coming down hard upon the glass and you could hear the distant crackling of the nearby thunder. You saw the other toys coming into the room. You helped them up onto the drawer with your hook.

"Situation?" You asked your friend, Varian.

"Lost toy, side yard." He pointed to the window and you nodded. You looked towards the many other toys in the room and you quickly orchestrated a scheme that would help get the window open. Rapunzel stood on the book and then Cass jumped on it to send Rapunzel flying into the air. She grabbed the side of the window and pulled it loose for everyone to see.

The rain you could see was cold and wet, it was coming down in heaps of large droplets.

"There it is!" Eugene pointed at the lost toy. The remote-controlled car named RC was stuck in the gutter area of the driveway. The car was fighting to get back but the rain and leaves were too overpowering.

You and Varian looked at each other, you knew what to do. "Operation Pull Toy!"

You had everyone hold onto Slinky as you lowered Varian to the conflicted race car. He was trying to reach the car but it was so close out of your reach. Varian then let Slinky Dog grab his pull string and you worried that it still wouldn't be enough. You weren't going to lose a friend today, not on this night. Grabbing the barrel of monkeys you made them create a line and you held that line in between the dog and the shepherd's hook. Varian was able to grab onto the lost toy with ease and with everyone's help, you pulled the toys up safely. You have gotten past the barrel of monkey rope when you heard doors opening and closing and the murmuring of footsteps nearby. You fastened your pace as the rest of the toys found their rightful positions. You were getting to the end of Slinky when you had to freeze in place and the window was shut. You looked worried for a second and then went back to smiling.

"Are you sure you don't need her anymore?" Andy's mother asked her other little child, Molly. The Davis' had gotten you a long time ago when Molly was no bigger than a three-layer cake and now that she had grown up she had no use for her childhood lamp.

"Yeah, I'm sure." A semi-grown-up Molly answered. In some ways, you were happy to see your kid grow up but in other ways, you wish that it hadn't happened so fast.

You were going to be leaving Rapunzel, Eugene, Cass, but most importantly Varian and you weren't okay with that.

You were shoved into a box and then immediately taken away. Then you were placed underneath the car while the man that was going to take up paid Andy's mother. Your sheep looked at you with worry and began to make noises. You sat beside them and began to shhh them. There was then an opening of the box and you are going to go frozen again, but then you saw Varian. You instantly got up from your spot on the ground and went to the closest wall to him.

"Come on! We have to go before they get back. We can hide in the-"

"I'm staying here." You said.

"But you have to be there for Andy."

"I'm not Andy's toy." You said, no matter what you were going to have to leave. If there was a chance that he could come with you, you should tell him that. He could get in the box and go with you to your new owner. "You know kids lose their toys every day, sometimes in the yard," You referenced RC that almost got left outside and never returned "and sometimes they get put in a box," you said, waiting for Varian to fill in what you meant.
