snow

"YOU'VE been waiting by that window since the beginning of the day." Varian said, "Why are you staring out of the window? There's nothing out there."

"Exactly," you said sighing, "there's nothing out there and that's the problem. I was hoping that maybe this year it would finally snow today. It would make today special."

"Today is already really special, everyone's here together gathering to celebrate the holidays," he said, making you want to smile but the defeated feeling of not having snow today was one that you couldn't shake.

"I guess I better say hi to everyone," you said, leaving the window and stop watching the window where green fields lay. You wished that they were covered in the softness of the white snow that you remembered when you were younger.

Varian realized that you were still upset about the snow, so he told you, "There's always tomorrow. It could snow then."

"You're right, but don't think that I won't be waiting next to the windowsill early tomorrow," you told him, and then you both went to talk to people. You tried not to feel down, it was just snow, and you couldn't control the weather. It was an okay time talking to everyone that came to visit. They all seemed very happy about the holidays and couldn't wait to get back to their families to celebrate. There was only one sleep left was all you kept hearing and you kept reminding yourself that it also meant that there was only one more chance for snow to come.

Everyone sat down and ate and you nibbled at stuff on your plate, not fully going for a second like you normally did. Not everyone acted like it was off for you, but Varian knew. He whispered, "Are you okay? Is it still about the snow?"

"Yeah, it is still about the snow, I'm trying not to feel bad but every time I start feeling better I remind myself that there's only one more day for it to come," you told him.

"That's fine. That means that there's still 24 hours left for it to snow, and 1440 minutes, and 86400 seconds left, but that number is constantly changing."

"1440 minutes? That makes it not seem as bad," you said. "Thanks." You gave him a quick hug and then headed to talk to someone before they left. People slowly began to leave after that first-person and you felt hopeful for tomorrow.

THE NEXT DAY

"(Y/n)! Come look!" he said. You weren't sure where he was but you wondered why he wanted you to wake up.

     "What is it?" you asked.

     "Look outside!" he said.

"It's snowing?" you said looking out the window, "It's snowing!"

"See, we didn't even need 900 of those minutes because it's snowing right now."

"The snow just makes everything more magical," you told him.

"It's good to see you happy."

You didn't look at him but you smiled. The snow was your dream, but as Eugene says, it was time to find another one.
