Pallete carefully gazed the small figure up and down, Goth, his boyfriend was standing before him, a look on his face that portrayed disappointment at every possible angle. "So you're not scared easily? Let's go in together"
Goth eyed him suspiciously. "You shouldn't be here"

Pallete skipped toward the building, it's door slightly ajar. He poked his head through the gap, the dark void impenetrable. A large array of smells assaulted him, none of which was pleasant. He was getting the aroma of mold and damp, rotten timber, and the natural scent of decaying flesh. Quite the bouquet indeed.

"I said you shouldn't be here" Goth repeated.
Pallete looked back at him. They were both in their late teens. He spied the scarf around his neck, red, nearly crimson in colour. "There's no harm in taking a peek is there?" He said, pulling a flashlight from his pocket. "It's abandoned right?"
"It's not abandoned. Something lives here"
"Don't be silly, nobody would choose to live in this wreck"
"An animal does"

Pallete arched an 'eyebrow' as he took hold of the door and tested it. It creaked, resisting his pull. "Animal? Is it a hermit?"
"It just doesn't get along" said Goth, his words both cautionary and concerning as he stepped towards him. "You really should leave"

"Doesn't look like its in" Pallete ducked between the door and into the gloom. While Goth called after him, he flicked his flashlight switch. A bright beam shot through the pitch black, the place alive with a wave of dust particles.
Pallete gagged. The forest scent didn't provide cover for the stink.

Behind him, Goth struggled to get through the entrance, cursing at the intruding other. Pallete ignored him, searching for signs of life.
Or worse...

He swung his flashlight across the walls, the odd tool nailed in place, covered in spiderwebs by years of neglect. Off cuts littered the floor, wedges of rotten animal that teamed with spiders, slugs and maggots. The smell was nearly unbearable.

Pallete and Goth snapped to attention as something dragged behind them, what looked to be an animal corpse. It's lifeless body was tugged around the corner, it's eyes still fixed in fear from the moment it was killed.
"He rises" Goths voice was but a mere whisper.

Palletes eyes were fixed on the ground, expecting it to crumble and fall, revealing the creature below. Instead, a shower of dust caused them both to cough. The taller skeleton raised the flashlight to the roof, settling it's focus upon the buildings master. The figure stood perched on four paws from one of the loftiest beams holding the roof. It's furless head was bright, pulsing white as the flashlights beams caressed it.

It's clawed paws trembled. Crooked knuckles cracking as it prepared to jump from the ledge. It tipped its head, neck craning to look down at Pallete and Goth.
Bright blue eyes blinked, a deep intake of breath heard as it sniffed at the putrid air. A large, boney mouth yawned open, revealing a mouth of jagged teeth dominated by massive canines at least 6 inches long.

Pallete jumped and turned just in time to see the monster jump down and advance on strong legs. The flashlight rolled back and forth across the abandoned home as the two of them ran for it.

"Run!" Goth yelled, the whole place rumbling as they both scattered to confuse the creature. Earth and stone fell from the ceiling showered down on them. Neither of them were used to fleeing from such things as they never really explored alone. Usually, they'd have Reaper tagging along if they did. Just in case.

But today was different. They were running, lives on the line. For real this time. Pallete couldn't see Goth anymore, panic rising in his soul, fearing the smaller had been caught in the chaos of the ordeal and hadn't made it. His sternum heaved in efforted breaths to get his legs moving faster. God he felt like his hips would give out. He'd pop a socket any minute now but he kept going, speeding to the door, his eyes bright in hope that he might just make it.

Goth suddenly thundered around the corner, skidding and crashing through the door, diving into the grass wet with early morning mildew that flew in all directions as the skeletons weight hit them. Pallete quickly tore after him, his scarf ripping on a nail, tugging him back a moment hearing the fabric tear. He was soon free, running at a flat out pace to catch up with Goth, the monster shortly behind them.

It had thundering breathing as it careened through the forestry, twigs snapping under its large paws like they were nothing but the smallest of reeds. It snorted, speeding up.

"That way!!" Pallete yelled, jumping like a gazelle into a somewhat hidden pathway, blocked off by trees and long grass. It only took him a moment to realize he was alone. Not for long it seemed when Goth barreled through the long grass, cutting ahead of Pallete at the moment. He didn't utter a word, neither did Pallete as they ran, their feet sounding like they were a herd of horses at how fast they were moving.

Their relief was short lived when they realized the thing was gone.

Turns out it hadn't.

Their world blinded, only for a split second though seeming longer. Several smaller trees toppled downward, crashing. The monster continued pursuit but there was nowhere else to go.

Except for between.

And that's exactly what the skeletons did, they looked like ants compared to the hulking creatures of yesteryear as Reaper called them.
Pallete seized hold of Goths hand, sprinting towards it.
"What the fuck, are you crazy!!" Goth yelled in alarm, his eyes growing wide in fear seeing the danger they were in.
"Just trust me!" The other skeleton replied in a voice that cracked in fear.

A daze is all Goth could see as he found himself being dragged through its legs, making the final dash for safety.

The fence. The way they came in. Pallete darted through the hole in the wire mesh, Goth in tow.
They stood on the street when the thundering sound of flesh against metal sounded out, their pursorer smashing into it, struggling to reach what it thought was its next meal over the rusted support, neglected by years of rain and mistreatment.

The two of them stood there, frozen in fear and anticipation thinking it might get through. However, thoughts were put at ease when the creature retreated. Disappointed.

"Holy fuck that was intense!" Pallete doubled over in a panting heap, Goth full on collapsing onto the tarmac, his breathing at such a speed it'd be hard to make out just how fast it was going. "I'll say!"

The skeleton doubled over began to laugh. "There is no way, on natures green earth we are ever doing that again" He chocked out.
"Agreed" Goth looked over at him as both dissolved into fits of hysterical laughter. They definitely wouldn't go early morning exploring ever.
EVER
AGAIN.
