Have you guys heard of the show Extinct or Alive? It's a really good show where a wildlife biologist name Forrest Galante searches for evidence of animals that are extinct. No he isn't looking for dinosaurs or dodo birds, he is looking for animals that have legitimate evidence of being alive and has actually found some of these animals on camera, and got DNA samples to be verified.  He also makes sure to get conservation on top of the animal if/when he finds it. He doesn't do this to have this show, this is his job and he takes it seriously. It's obvious he genuinely cares about animals, and always gets easily sidetracked when he finds more wildlife. Anyways it's really good, on Animal Planet, and recommend it if you like animals and shows like that. This one-shot is going to be going along with an episode of this show where he was looking for caiman nicknamed Colombian Dinosaur.

This is going to be long, so get cozy.

I'm in the middle of a call with my boyfriend, Jack. I'm a wildlife biologist with my older brother, Forrest. We are about to go to South America, Colombia, to look for a Rio Apaporis Caiman, believed to be extinct since the 1980's. The problem is, these caimans lives in the part of the Amazon, now a lawless land controlled by FARC. Meaning, we could easily run into kidnappers, drug cartels, and guerrilla warlords. I'm willing to do it, as well as Forrest and the crew, but I'm still worried. And so is Jack. "Are you sure you can't just sit this one out?" He asks. "No Jack. I have to help. Who knows what they could find out there. And I want to help find the caiman."

I hear him sigh. He knows he can't change my mind. Not only do I love this job, and love saving animals, but reptiles are especially favorite. I'm fascinated by them. "Okay, fine. But please, please promise that if something goes wrong, you'll get out." He says. "Of course Jack. Assuming everyone else gets out too." I say. "You're so stubborn you know that?" He pauses. "But I love that." I chuckle. "I love you." I tell him. "I love you too." I look to see Forrest signaling me, meaning it's time to get on this questionable plane. "I have to go. I miss you, and I love you." "Okay, don't die. I love you and miss you too. Bye." "Bye." I hang up.

I walk over to Forrest. "You ready for this?" He asks. I sigh. "Ready as I'll ever be." He pats my shoulder. "Okay. There is one pilot who agreed to take us to Villa Gladys." "This is a shady looking airport." I point out. "Nothing will happen to you on my watch." Forrest reassures. "Thanks big brother." He smiles. "Let's go."

I do a voice over as we walk onto the plane. "We are heading into the bush, run by drug runner and kidnappers, to find a unique crocodilian species. Luckily one pilot has agreed to take us to the village of Villa Gladys, where westerners have rarely set foot." The camera lanes onto Forrest. "This expedition is unlike any other. Going into the heart of drug cartel land, with guerrilla, warlords with a bit of camping gear and a camera team, to look for an animal that no one has seen since the 80's. It's quite something." He says into the camera. I know that this is one of the most dangerous things we have asked of the crew, but I really believe that this caiman is out there.

Forrest explains more information about what we could encounter into the camera, as he typically is. I don't often speak to the camera, being too camera shy, but they record me enough throughout the expeditions that Jack can call and tell me to stop getting into danger. Once he is done with that, we continue to look through our research, speaking to the cameras every so often about the Rio Apaporis Caiman. "If we find one, it would forever change our understanding or crocodilian evolution." Forrest says. "It has extreme unique characteristics and adaptation. It has an elongated thin snout and skull, it's very light yellow and white with dark splotching, it's unlike any other caiman species." I explain passionately.
