(Y/n) P.O.V.

I was standing on the sidewalk, looking on my phone, when a furry body collided with my legs. I'm about to fall over with a yelp, but a strong arm grabs me. My phone however does not receive that same fate, and crashes to the sidewalk. I'm so sorry. My dog got excited over a bird, and she bolted." A baritone voice apologizes. The man has black hair, facial hair, brown eyes. Pretty attractive if you ask me. "Oh...that's alright." I look to see the golden dog. "She's very cute. Do you mind if I pet her?"

"Not at all." I pet the fluffy dog whilst picking up my cracked phone. "Damn..." I mutter. "I'm so sorry! I can pay for the damages if you want." He's all flustered and worried, and I can't help but chuckle. "No, no, it's fine. Thank you, though. I'm (Y/n)."

"Mark." He shakes my hand. "It's nice to meet you, Mark. And might I add, you are very cute when flustered." I blush a little, not meaning to say that, but he smiles.

"Well if I'm so cute, what do you say to going out sometime?" I find it funny how he's shy one second, and flirty the next, but yet my smile immediately turns into a frown. "It's sweet of you to offer, but I'm not looking to get into anything right now." He tilts his head in confusion. "Bad break up?" He asks. I chuckle a little, but it's humorless. "You could say that." I pull out a chain necklace rom under my shirt to reveal a wedding band. He looks at it curiously, realization on his face.

"They died a few years ago. Car accident. I'm not...for lack of better word, sad anymore, but it's hard to get close to anyone like that again." I smile down sadly at the ring. "I'm sorry to hear that." He says. "It's alright, like I said, I'm okay." I'm surprised by how open I'm being around this stranger, but he seems like a decent person. I guess that's why it feels so easy.

We stand still for a few moments awkwardly, his dog walking around to the best of her ability. "Well instead of going out... what if we go get coffee together...as friends." He suggests. I smile. "You're very adamant about this." He puts his hands up in surrender. "As friends." He reiterates. I laugh a little, and tell him to hand me his phone. I make a contact with my number and hand it back. "Sidewalk girl?" He asked. "So you know who I am. See you later Mark."

Bulldozer: coffee tomorrow?

Sidewalk Girl: you know what? Sure

Bulldozer: really?

Sidewalk Girl: as friends

Bulldozer: friends! At noon?

Sidewalk Girl: noon it is. See ya tomorrow

I get dressed in a casual outfit, but still a little dressy. Im the one saying as friends, but I still wanna look nice. It's weird. I guess it doesn't help that I am attracted to him. A knock sounds at the door. I open it to see Mark. I smile. "Hey, ready to go?" He asks. I nod. We go to this bakery cafe place. It has a dining area, but the set up of a coffee shop. "I've never seen this place. It smells good in here though." I note. "Glad you think so." He says. We sit down with our coffees and pastries after ordering (And arguing about who would pay) to talk. We talk about careers and pets and hobbies and a little about family. Until of course he brings up the ring. "Tell me about them?" He asks. I have to think about it, but decide to.

"They're name was Charlie. We dated since sophomore year, and got engaged the summer before college as a promise. We were married young, but it never seemed like a mistake. We supported each other, shared everything with each other. Then one day, they were gone. I was devastated for awhile, and a part of me will always love them, but I know that they would have wanted me to be strong. To move on. It's just hard ya know? Being with someone you love so much, and then it's just gone."

I look down at my food, avoiding eye contact. I feel a hand on mine, and I look up to see his eyes filled with sympathy. But also understanding. I decide not to prod, but I feel a little more comfortable, feeling like he doesn't pity me, but understands me. "Anyways, YouTube, huh?"

We pull into my driveway, and he parks. We are laughing, or rather he's laughing in embarrassment and I'm laughing at him, at a story he tells me about him and his friend Ethan. "That's amazing! Is there video footage?" I ask, wiping a tear from my eye. He nods. I howl in laughter again. "I'm going to find it."

"No you won't."

"Ive got time for it. I mean, I doubt there are that many videos of people drinking their own piss." He rubs his neck sheepishly. "I don't know how you're still in this car talking to me." He admits. "I'm not an ordinary person." I say. "No, no you're not." We sit there, just staring into each other's eyes, traces of smiles on our lips. For a moment, we both lean in, but I stop. "As friends, Mark." I remind. He retracts back into his seat. "Right, as friends." He sighs dejectedly. "I'm sorry, I just..."

"But what if we weren't? What if this was a real date?" He asks. "Mark, you know how I feel." He takes my hand, and I let him. "I know. I'm not trying to replace Charlie. I'm not trying to make you forget them. I'm simply asking that you let me show you how to love again." He says.

I look at his sweet face, and I don't see any trace of deceit or malice or control. Just simple curiosity and hope. I sigh, feeling swayed by his words. Maybe....maybe it's time to truly move on. I look back up to his hopeful eyes, and smile. "Okay...not as friends." I lean over and kiss him softly. He kisses back almost immediately. It's gentle and sweet. "Call me soon, Mark." I say before getting out of the car. As I go to my door, my phone rings. I look at the ID. Bulldozer. I laugh, and look back towards his car, the window rolled down. "Well, aren't you gonna answer." I smile and hang up the phone. "Nah, the person calling is a douche." I call back, going inside while feeling the happiest I've been in a long time.
