His voice was a soft melody to her. Quite literally. He quietly sang to calm her as she leaned in close to his chest. They held each other like their lives depended on each other.
"You are my sunshine"
Really, they have to hold each other because they'd never get the chance again. Their death was closing in on them. Yet only he knew that.
"My only sunshine"
He tried so hard to keep his voice level, to make sure she wasn't frightened like he was. That's why he kept singing.
"You make me happy when skies are gray"
She could no longer see. She could not see the surrounding group with large spears closing in. She could feel how tense he was. Yet she let herself be lulled.
"You'll never know dear, how much I love you."
They got closer and closer. He held on tighter and tighter.
"So please don't take..."
The spears pierced right through the pair, the initial shock covering the pain. His voice became weaker.
"My sunshine..."
He pushed out his final word in a whisper, coming through bloodied teeth.
"Away."
