Being an orphan sucks. But ya know what's worse? Being an orphan with cancer. Everyday I lay in my lonely little room, no one but nurses and doctors coming in to poke at me again. I have had three rounds of chemotherapy for my leukemia, my third one being about a week ago. Most patients get some recovery time at home for a few months, but since I don't have a home they keep me here rather then around a bunch of other kids. The boredom can be unbearable sometimes, but there is one nurse who always makes time to talk with me.

Nurse Amanda is a 5'5 ball of happy energy. She is an African American woman in her forties, has long hair kept in a braid, a twig like body, and a Louisiana accent. It's where she's from. She always does her best to keep me in high spirits by listening to me talk or helping me with a task, or playing a game with me. I talk to her about just about everything since I have no one else to talk to. I've even told her how I was practically raised by my three favorite YouTubers, Jacksepticeye, Markiplier, and CrankGamePlays. My parents died when I was 5. That was three years ago. Ever since then YouTube has been what I lived for. I wish everyday for the chance to meet them, and to thank them for helping me through life. But at the rate that the leukemia is going, I'm afraid I might never get the chance. Usually three or four rounds of chemo will do the trick, but this is my third round and minimal changes have been seen. We won't know for sure until after the few months are up if I need another round after the fourth one.

"Evenin, Sunshine. How y'all doing today?" I shrug, not in a real good mood. "What's the matter babycakes?" I look her in the eye. "I'm scared, Amanda. What if this beats me? Who will grieve? I'm just some orphan girl." I sigh. Amanda puts a hand on my shoulder. "Now, I know your mama didn't want to raise no quitter. You are a mighty strong young lady, (Y/n), and I know you can do this. You are not some orphan girl, your an amazing, beautiful, strong, woman." She tells me gently but sternly before pulling me into a hug. "It's all gonna be okay." She hushes as I cry into her shoulder.

~~~~~(A Few days later)~~~~~
I've really been down lately. Amanda has really tried, but I just can't seem to lift my mood. It seems like everything I think about is just, oh, I'll miss that when I'm gone. I know there's still time, and I don't even know for sure if this round didn't work, but I just can't help it. "Morning sleeping beauty. I got a surprise for y'all!" Amanda says cheerily, walking into the room. I look over. "What is it?" I ask sitting up, curiously peeking at the doorway. "I got a few people to come here to see you. I thought you could use a good pick me up fo your mood." She smiles. "Come on in, boys."
The next thing I know, the greatest thing that's ever happened to me happens. Mark, Jack and Ethan all walk into the room. I look at them, star-stuck, while they smile back at me. Suddenly tears prick my eyes. "Amanda, thank you so so so much!" I shout, carefully making my way off the bed to hug her. "You're welcome girlie. I've got some patients to check on, but I'll be back in a little while. Have fun with your idols." She says, flicking the beanie on my head before leaving. Once she's gone, I hug each of the YouTubers. "It's so amazing to meet you guys. I'm (Y/n)." I say, sitting on the bed once again. "Nice to meet ya (Y/n)." Ethan says in a funny voice, making me laugh.
"That nurse really likes you a lot." Jack says. "She admitted to never using social media before, but didn't know another why to contact us. She made an account to reach out to us, and asked us if we wanted to meet someone..." He falters put a bit. "With cancer? Im not going to get offended." I say. He smiles sheepishly. "Um, I'm sure you guys have heard all of this before, but I just really wanted to tell you all what you mean to me. I've been orphan since the age of five, and was really alone for a long time. Then I found you guys, how taught to laugh and smile and give. You really helped pull me up when I was down, so thank you. Thank you for everything."
Mark smiles. "Well kiddo, it's thanks to people like you that we can keep going." I wipe tears of happiness from my eyes, hugging them each again. We talk for hours before Amanda comes back. "Hello boys, how ya treating my star patient? I'm assuming everything's okay, but there's that smile I've been waiting to see." She says excitedly. I laugh. "Well, I'm sorry to say this boys, but visitors have to go home." She says. "Aww, but she's so cute! Can't I keep her?" Ethan groans, cling to me side. "I'm not a dog." I giggle. Amanda smiles. "Y'all can come back tomorrow, girlie needs to sleep. Night boys." She says sternly. I wish them all a good night, them doing the same for me and Amanda, and they promise to be back tomorrow. I go to sleep that night, excited for the new day.
