I wake up to a shuffling in the bed. I see Mark shoot up, beads of sweat on his face. It's been like this for a week now. He's been getting nightmares every night. "Mark, are you alright?" I ask, sitting up with him. He's breathing heavily. "I-I'm fine. Go back to sleep, baby." He says, his voice laced with sleep. "Mark, you're not fine, you haven't slept. Don't you want to talk about it?" I ask, concerned. "No!" He snaps. "No...I'm fine." He insist more calm this time. "Mark, you haven't been sleeping because of these nightmares. Talk to me." I say calmly. He shakes his head. "N-No, it's nothing. It's stupid." "If it's keeping you awake, it isn't stupid." "I'm fine." He lays back down. I lay with him pulling him close. "You can always talk to me." I tell him. "I know." He kisses my head. "Goodnight." "Goodnight." I whisper back. I stay awake, nuzzling into his side and listening to him. I don't think he plans on going back to sleep.

He's been avoiding going to bed since the third night, but I always made him go to sleep. And after he woke up, and refused to go back to sleep. I rub circles on his shoulder gently, and hum softly. "Go to sleep, babe." He tells me. "You first." I retort. He sighs. "I can't... I can't see that again." His voice cracks slightly. "Want to talk about it?" He doesn't respond. "It might help you. You'll only hurt yourself if you don't sleep." I tell him. He still doesn't respond. "I won't force you Mark, but try and sleep again." He hugs me. "Okay, I will." I watch him close his eyes, and try to sleep. Only once I hear a few soft snores from him do I close my eyes myself.

"I'm heading to bed, Mark. Are you coming?" "I'll be there in a moment." "No you won't. Mark, every time you say that, you don't go to bed. You haven't been sleeping, have you? Is it the nightmares?" I accuse. He looks down. "Don't think I haven't noticed the dark bags under your eyes, or the lethargic attitude. Mark, these nightmares are getting really bad. Talk to me." I plead. "I'm fine, (Y/n)." "Mark Edward Fischbach! You are not fine. Stop trying to lie to me, and more importantly stop trying to lie to yourself. You need help. You need to talk to me." He goes quiet. I just hug him. "Let me help you, Mark."

"Every time I go to sleep, I see that same thing. I can't keep seeing that look." He says quietly. "What look?" I ask gently. "That look of despair you hold when you realize that I can't save you. That look of fear you hold right before you die. That blank look you hold after you're gone." He shudders, tears in his eyes. I rub his back soothingly. "Mark, those dreams aren't real. I'm right here. I'm always going to be right here." He sighs. "I know that, logically, but I'm still so scared. I don't want to see those looks ever again. I can't do it. I love you too much." He whispers. I smile softly, and kiss his cheek. "Mark, it isn't real. I promise you, I'll always be right here next to you when you wake up. I'll always be at your side when you need me. I'm not going anywhere."

"In the nightmare...I always wake up in bed, but you aren't there. I search for you, but I do t find you. I open the front door, and your in the street. You see me and smile. Then, a car starts driving towards, not slowing down. I try to rush forward, push you away, but I can't move, I can't shout. You can't move either, but you see the car. You start shouting my name, begging for help, but I can't move. I watch you look at me hopelessly, I watch you get hit, I watch you lay bloody in the street. I don't want to keep seeing that." He's full out crying now. I pull him into a tight hug. "Mark, I'm okay. I'm right here. I'm always going to be right here. Listen," I move his head so he can hear my heart. "my heart is still beating. I'm right here." He nods. "Thank you..." "Don't mention it. Are you feeling better?" I ask. "I think so...let's go to bed now." I smile. "You must be exhausted." I kiss his forehead, and drag him along to bed. And for the first time in weeks, Mark gets a full nights sleep.
