Finally, you were back in school. It felt like it had been months when, in reality, it had only been a couple weeks. You were back to being the loner girl that never talked to anyone but Mei, and that didn't bother you. For some reason, you were actually relieved.

Maybe it was because that meant your life was somewhat back to what it was before. Maybe it was because your anxiety hadn't helped with meeting new people and you didn't have to do that at school. Or maybe it was just because you were an awful person that hated being around others because of your own selfish feelings.

Yep. You definitely thought it was the third one.

You walked to school with Tsu, making light conversation. You didn't say much but Tsuyu was fine with that, thinking you were just tired. It only took five minutes to walk to school from the dorms, which surprised you. Usually you had to walk for 30 minutes to get there.

You split up shortly after getting inside. Tsuyu went to see her friends, and you went to go read in the courtyard. You were back at your favorite place, a secluded tree near the walled area of the school. The last time you'd been here, you were only a couple hours away from-

No, you promised not to mention that. There's no need to bring it up, so why bother? It's in the past, you don't need to remember it. You'll only torture yourself if you keep up with these thoughts.

You ran your hand over a knot in the tree, reaching into the tree hollow inside of it. After rummaging around for a couple seconds, you found who you were looking for and pulled her out quickly.

The little dragon roared in protest, flaring her wings a little. You just chuckled, stroking her back.

"Hi Amalie," You cooed, staying as quiet as possible. "How are you doing?" The little purple dragon arched her back, giving you her equivalent of a proud smile before squeaking something out. You laughed a little, rubbing her head. She pushed her head further into your finger, wanting as much attention as possible. "Once I'm allowed to build again, I'm going to make you something to help you fly. Then you won't have to stay in the tree at night."

Amalie nudged your forefinger, trying to tell you to let her get settled. Quickly, keeping in mind that you had to be gentle, you hid her in your coat.

After you'd returned to school the first time, you'd stumbled upon Amalie under your tree. Her wing was damaged and she was crying out in pain, which is what caused you to help her for so long. She was almost always in your jacket, with the exception of days that you didn't have enough time to grab her, one of those days being the day you'd sprung with Tsuyu.

Still though, you were glad to be back. You had missed your little friend after all, and once you'd built her something to help her wings, you could sneak her into your dorm and she could stay there. You were sure that Tsu wouldn't mind, even if she didn't know Amalie existed yet.

After Amalie was settled comfortably, you rushed to get to class on time. You were supposed to start building today, which was the only reason you were so eager to get there on time. You'd been working on the plans for so many inventions while you were out, and all you wanted to do was make them now.

You spent all day working on Amalie's gift. The plan was to make a machine that was mainly controlled by Amalie. She'd tell her wings to move one way, and the machine would register that and shock the muscles in her wings to make them move like they should. It wouldn't be painful, the only downside is that the reaction time is delayed slightly. Since the command moves faster in your actual muscles, it's hard to make it go just as fast with only a machine.

Sizing was also an issue for two minutes. You thought that your teacher would be walking around, watching what everyone was doing. You needed to have Amalie with you so that you knew it would all fit on her, and if she was nearby and saw her then you could get in massive trouble. Luckily though, as soon as class had actually started, your teacher fell asleep at her desk.
