When the leaves in front of you were pulled back, you used your quirk to blast them away before you even saw who it was. A loud explosion echoed as whoever you'd thrown tried to keep themselves from hitting the cement, and then Tsuyu's face carefully popped into view. Your eyes widened, realizing you'd probably blasted Bakugou. He was going to be pissed.
The kids shook behind you, horrified. As far as they could tell, the villains had found you and they were about to be killed. Hell, they probably thought you were about to be killed right in front of them. You couldn't blame them for being terrified of that, you would be too.
"(Y/N)?" Tsuyu piped up, the croakiness in her voice a bit stronger than usual. "Are you guys okay?" her eyes widened when she noticed the kids behind you, clutching your jacket like their life depended on it and shaking like there was an earthquake.
You nodded, still in shock. You were replacing terror with terror, after all. You'd need a minute, and maybe a dissociative episode, before you were fully better. Still, it helped a little that Tsuyu was there to help you.
Bakugou reappeared in front of you, small ash marks covering different parts of his skin. His swim trunks had become frayed at the bottom, and it looked like he'd been in a huge fight.
"Are you guys alright?" You nodded again, and the kids seemed to realize that they weren't in immediate danger anymore. The little boy stayed clutching your arm, while the little girl backed away a little. She almost seemed ashamed of being scared in the first place.
"Who are you guys?" Her voice startled you all, though you jumped the most.
"I'm Bakugou, she's Asui, and the girl who hid with you is (L/N)." Bakugou crudely gestured between you all, earning a light slap from Tsuyu.
"Bakugou and I heroes in training, kero. We fixed what was happening in the park with the rest of our classmates." The little girl huffed, glaring a bit. Before she could speak again, her brother cut her off.
"What about (L/N)? How do you know her?" He was extremely quiet, which you found adorable. If he was your brother, you'd be home way more.
"She's my soulmate, kero. (L/N) is training to build stuff for heroes, like their suits and help items." The little boy grew more excited with every word, and his eyes finally left the ground to look at you.
"That's a job?" His eyes were wide, and he seemed so excited. For once, your mind was completely at ease, and you felt calm. There wasn't a sense of danger in the background, a looming sense of dread, it was just silent. You found it nice.
You nodded, a smile growing on your face. "It is. And I really enjoy it. Do you like building?" He nodded so hard you were worried he'd accidentally hit his chin on something. "Then when you're older, if you still feel that way, you should come to UA. Maybe we'll get to work together once you graduate."
He jumped around for a moment, too much excitement to be contained in his small body. His sister's glare faded and a small smile replaced it as she watched her brother.
"So, should we find your parents?"
The boy stopped, now looking afraid. A glare hardened over the girls smile, and you couldn't help but feel bad. It was a familiar feeling, not wanting to go home, but you couldn't very well keep them hostage with you.
"They're probably looking for us. We should go, before they get mad." The boy clutched his sisters hand, waving to you all as they chose to leave on their own. You all waved back, though utterly confused on some parts.
You tried to stand, but your legs laid against the pavement like lead. With the little boy gone, your mind was racing once again. It was fully sinking in that you could've just died, and the children you were watching over would've been defenseless in that situation.
You didn't want to dissociate. The numb feeling started ebbing at you, and your eyes started to glaze over, but you didn't want it. You tried to fight it, but strength was quickly leaving every part of you and soon a plaster had cast itself over your mind.
You could vaguely tell that Tsuyu had sat down next to you, but no other surroundings registered to you.
While you were 'out', the 1A kids worked on reassembling the park. Reconnecting families, picking up debris, looking for any lost civilians, etc. They worked as hard as they could with the nineteen students available, even Mineta. The other UA kids tried to help as much as they could, though Monoma spent most of his time mocking the 1A kids for getting help with fighting the villains.
You'd later be told that the attackers were there to prove that heroes can't save everyone, since they didn't think anyone at a waterpark would try to fight them or be a hero on break. Tsuyu assured you that they were taken down easily, since a good chunk of them were at a disadvantage in a watery environment.
Still, it didn't reassure you to know that the kids' parents were found by someone named Sero and that they seemed uber strict and uptight. The look on their faces didn't sit right with you, but you couldn't do anything, so it was reserved to the corner of regrets.
You made Tsuyu vow to never take you to another waterpark again. She talked you down to no more waterparks during high school, which you only accepted because she seemed really excited to go back with you some day. You doubted you'd actually swim, but who knows? Tsuyu had a strange affect on you, after all.
Was it so inconceivable to think she'd help you get better, and maybe even become the closest person to you?
