"Do you want us to leave? We can give you some space, if you'd li-"
"No, you're alright, kero. You're all just as welcome here as me." Uraraka nodded, finally unwrapping herself from around Asui. You still hated that she was like that, but at least now you knew that they were just friends.
Probably.
Why do you even care? You've known this girl for less than an hour, and you're already jealous? Sure, she's your soulmate, or whatever, but since when have you let yourself tie someone down when they'd do better without you? That wasn't how you ran your life, not even before everything that happened.
Your eyes left Asui and looked down to your shaking hands once again as everyone settled back into place. You could tell Mei really wanted to just hug you and tell you everything would be fine, but were you really going to let her?
After a couple beats of hesitation, consideration, and awkward silence, you reached one hand over to hers and grabbed it.
You could practically hear the girl start crying as Iida comforted her softly, careful not to touch your hand. The others stayed relatively silent, except for their initial gasps of surprise.
"(Y/N)? I thought-I mean, in your memory, uh, are you okay?" Midoriya's stuttering cut off as he noticed how much you were shaking. Your forced your hand to stay still, to keep Mei from noticing how scared you were. It would hurt her so much to think you were afraid of her.
You responded to him with a quick nod, still not looking up from the sheets covering your legs. Asui was still silent, and although Uraraka had untangled herself from the greenette, you could still sense her right behind her.
As if out of nowhere, small, soft, sobs echoed throughout the room. Your head bolted up, looking around in surprise. It hadn't been Mei, her crying was silent. Your eyes finally rested on Asui, who's eyes were now closed and puffy and red, and Uraraka, who was quick to wrap herself around her again, and to start talking quietly in her ear again, and to ignore your jealous glare again.
You hesitated again. They were probably safe, right? And if they weren't, the doctors wouldn't let them in. And if the doctors didn't know, or didn't care, or were bad like the league, you'd get taken again. But at this point, did you really care? You'd been told you lost your memory of them. You'd been told you trusted them. But if it was a lie?
Then you'd die, you told yourself. If you got taken back, you'd just die. It wouldn't be that hard, and it's not like you didn't want to. So really, what was the harm? You'd survived six months with Dabi. Could anyone be that bad?
With another shaky decision, you reached your hand out to her. Another gasp resonated throughout the room, almost convincing you to draw back.
But when Asui looked up at you, and noticed your hand?
You swore you fell in love.
Her eyes were wide, and Uraraka seemed to notice. Tears still streamed unevenly down her face, but her eyes locked with yours, and for a brief moment, you were safe.
Look at you, being brave, you told yourself. Look at you, doing what you promised yourself you'd never do again. Look at you, about to fall right back into this deadly game. You forced yourself to ignore the sirens and whistles and yelling coming from your brain, and let yourself take her hand.
Her crying didn't stop after she'd laced her fingers with yours. If anything, it got worse. But Uraraka left her side for good this time, and Asui seemed much happier and less stressed.
