You were shaken awake the next morning. You couldn't breathe, any chance of air caught in your throat as this stranger continued to touch you. Your eyes stayed glued shut, refusing even the slightest of light to enter your field of vision. Your limbs felt frozen, impossible to move and stiff as a board. A small whimper escaped your lips just before the person left you alone.
"Deku-kun, hold on!" Another strangely familiar voice spoke out in the room, not helping your nerves. Why weren't people just leaving you alone? "Remember what Asui said!"
You could practically hear the confusion coming from this Deku kid.
"What do you mean, Uraraka? She's still our friend, shouldn't we wake her up?" You could hear someone about to speak up before the voice you'd missed most these past few months cut it off.
"Can we not?" She sounded awful. Her voice was gravelly and tired, nothing like the energetic voice of Mei that you were used to. It almost made you feel bad.
Were they talking about you? You recognized the voices, even if you couldn't place a name on 83% of them.
No, you told yourself, that was a narcissistic and selfish thought. Why would they be there for you? You were positive that nobody cared that much about you. After all, your own brother didn't come after you.
"Hatsume, are you okay?" You heard the wrinkling of fabric, and a few footsteps. You assumed she had shaken her head and that someone had hugged her, but you weren't sure. The sound was too quiet for you to be entirely sure.
"I don't know." She let out a breathy, wet laugh. You could tell she was about to cry, but what could you do to comfort her? Even if you could, she'd probably turn down a hug from you. She hadn't heard from you in months, not that it was your fault. "It doesn't matter though. I didn't know, the first time. If what they think happened is true, she's going to relive that again. I'm not leaving her alone for that."
You sensed her moving next to the bed as she finished talking. You assumed she'd sat down next to the green haired girl from earlier.
"So she really lost her memory? Like, it's gone, capoot?" The Deku kid from earlier piped up, a bit more disheartened than before. You heard more faint ruffles of fabric, again signalling to you that someone was nodding.
"They think she's back to right after the league. She signed something earlier, kero, but I don't know what it was. She was signing too quickly, and I'm not that fluent." You could hear Mei's sigh of defeat as she slumped back in her chair. "She's there, though. That's what she told the doctor, and she flinched away from my touch, and.. and..." She cut herself off before a sob could crack through her voice.
"She'll be okay, Asui. She'll be okay." The other girls voice rang out as she moved to hug the greenette. Your eyelids were heavy, yet you considered opening them. Were they talking about you or not? The curiosity was killing you.
With a hesitant breath, you slowly let your eyes creak open. A faint gasp erupted from Mei as you got used to the bright lights shining into your pupils. You could feel her holding back from hugging you.
Another moment later and you could look around the room and gather what was around you. A tall boy with blue hair stood behind Mei, a hand on her shoulder as she stared at you with tear filled eyes. In the chair next to her sat the greenette, Asui, you believed. She was looking at the ground, tears dripping slowly off her cheeks.
At the foot of your bed stood two boys, one with white and red hair and one with green hair. They were staring at you intently, hope filling their eyes. And finally, behind the green haired girl stood a brunette girl with flushed pink cheeks and bright brown eyes. She was staring at the floor too, hugging Asui around the shoulders and whispering something to the crying girl. Her pinkies were pointed out, only allowing four fingers to touch her.
For some reason, watching the brunette hug Asui made your heart shatter a bit more. Sure, she was attractive, but they were probably soulmates and she would never like you back. You let your gaze fall back to your hands, gripping the sheets over your legs.
"(Y/N)? How are you feeling?" Mei's voice cracked, but she sounded hopeful. You flinched slightly at her sudden voice echoing in your ears. A small thumbs up was lifted from your sheets as you held up your hand. You could practically hear her smile as she relaxed.
"Do you remember us, kero?" Asui spoke up, but when you looked over, her eyes had hardly left the floor. You looked away again, to the opposite side of the bed. Nobody sat there, and you got a clear view of the clean, shiny floor. You nodded slightly as the greenette audibly perked up.
"Which of us?" The green haired boy, whos voice matched with the Deku kids, asked. You gestured for a bit of paper before Asui spoke again.
"It's okay, I know sign language, kero. Just sign it."
"Mei. And you were all on the roof before." Your hands trembled slightly as you signed, mind going back to that day. Mei started to reach for your hands before she stopped, hesitated, and let them drop back onto her lap.
"She says Mei. She knows us from the roof right before-" The greenette stopped, hesitating. "Before everything else happened, kero."
"So you really only remember what happened with the league and before that?" Deku said, giving you a sorry look. You nodded stiffly, staying away from that headspace. "(Y/N), I'm so sorry we left you there, on the roof. We left to lecture Monoma for what he said to you, but looking back we should've stayed to make sure you were okay." Deku hung his head, along with the boy next to him.
"If (Y/N) doesn't remember us, then we should reintroduce ourselves." The brunette piped in, still hugging Asui. Your heart twisted more as the knife she'd plunged into it turned. With everyone's agreement, she started first. "I'm Uraraka Ochaco."
"I'm Iida Tenya, class rep of 2A!" The blue haired boy behind Mei said, slightly louder than you were used to. You didn't mind though. You could hear him clearly, and you enjoyed not being forced to guess what he said.
"I'm Midoriya Izuku." Deku said, raising his hand. You nodded, making a mental note that his name was not, in fact, a harsh insult.
"Todoroki Shouto." The boy with red and white hair spoke up. He still intimidated you, if not more than before.
Finally, it was the green haired girls turn. She hesitated before her voice came out clear as day. "I'm Asui Tsuyu. You call me Tsu. I'm your soulmate."
Your heart stopped as your eyes went wider than saucers.
