The first Monday of June couldn't have started any better, it was a cold and good day to stay indoors, but as usual, work never stopped for anyone just as time never did. Time was money, and money was the only language some people understood.
The Billings' beach house couldn't be any cooler, MJ had woken up to the bluest Monday ever when she found her brother with a bunch of men in black, waiting in the sitting room.
"Oh, there you are!" Jorge said when he spotted her in her business attire. The other men looked at MJ, scrutinizing her with their eyes. MJ looked at them with glass eyes, causing them to avert their gaze. She turned her attention to her brother, waiting for him to explain what was happening. "Well, MJ, these are going to be your bodyguards. They will-"
"I know what bodyguards do, but since when have I ever needed a bodyguard?" She asked quietly, her eyes burning holes into his skin. Jorge cleared his throat and gestured for the men to excuse them. Once they had left, he turned his attention to MJ, and crossed his arms.
"MJ, I can't protect you from a distance, but at least I will feel better knowing you are safe with these guys." Jorge said pleadingly, but she scoffed.
"How the hell am I going to be safe with a bunch of perverts who can't keep their eyes to themselves?! Did you see the way they were looking at me?!" MJ shouted, angry. Jorge sighed and ran a hand through his hair.
"MJ, after what happened the last time we were here, I think it's better for you to have bodyguards, for what we know, the person who kidnapped you is still out there." Jorge explained, and MJ remained quiet as the events that took place three months ago, played freshly in her mind.
"I have been running this business for over thirteen years, and I've never had bodyguards." MJ argued quietly, her voice sounding defeated.
"But your enemies were never in London, Ireland, or New York." MJ looked up at him. "They are here." He said. MJ thought about what he'd just said and sighed in defeat.
"Fine, but they are not to stay less than five hundred meters from me; they have to keep their distance." MJ warned.
Jorge groaned in annoyance, but agreed anyway. He called the bodyguards back in and introduced them. "Guys, this is my sister, MJ. MJ, these-"
"Names later, just tell me who will be doing what, where, and when." MJ said flatly.
Jorge narrowed his eyes at her but she just rolled her eyes. The bodyguards were seven in total. There were three coloured guys, three black Africans, and strangely, one tall African American guy.
"Okay, so Thabo and Lincoln are going to be your personal guards, they will go with you wherever you go." He gestured at two guys who stepped forward. "The others, Tebogo, Thapelo, Bongani, Keagan, and Keanu are going to watch the house."
MJ watched them carefully, her eyes assessing each one of them as if searching for something. "I'll take everyone." MJ said, her eyes trained on Lincoln. "I'll take everyone except for Lincoln, he can stay behind and watch the house." She touched her chin thoughtfully. "Or better yet, you take him wherever you go."
"That's fine, and to top it off, I got you a driver."
"MJ." Liam greeted as he walked in.
A small smile tugged on MJ's lips and she sighed in relief. "Liam, good to see you!" She shook his hand in a firm grip. "Hopefully you won't disappear again, and my kidnappers will keep their distance because you are here, isn't that correct?" She asked in a singsong voice, her lips set into a tight smile. Liam clenched his teeth, but did not comment on the matter.
Jorge cleared his throat, and MJ finally let go of Liam's hand.
