Ahsoka was woken by the beeping of her commlink from the bedside table. It kept going for a few second, then stopped. She sighed and went to close her eyes, but it started beeping again, more insistantly than before. She sat up and reached across Rex, who also stirred and grumbled at the intrusion.

"Sorry Rexie, just grabbing the comm." She murmured, fumbling at the bedside table. She managed to finally grip the holocomm and turn it on, squinting at the sudden blue light. The small figure of Anakin stood there with his arms crossed, tapping his foot in annoyance. Ahsoka glanced at the chrono.

"Master, you do realise that it's 2am here on Corascant, right?" She grumbled, blinking sleepily at him. Rex muttered something unintelligible and rolled over, pulling his pillow over his head.

"And you do realise that you two filed a medical report and then slipped away to do who knows what without telling me the real reason for your leave, only for me to get a call from freaking grandmaster YODA, telling me that Rex was under training to use the force. What the hell, snips?" He growled, uncrossing his arms to glare at her menacingly. Rex raised his head blearily.

"With all due respect, Anakin, training is a loose term for me accidentally making a bowl explode and her beating me up with a stick." He grumbled, then flopped back down to try to hide from the light. Anakin blinked.

"Ahsoka... did anyone ever tell you that it's not nice to beat your boyfriend up with a training saber?" Anakin asked, concern breaking through the annoyance.

"Not my boyfriend." She muttered, glancing at Rex, who gave up on going back to sleep.

"Oh really? Where's the ring, Rex?"

Ahsoka and Rex shared a look. Rex just shrugged at them. "On the bedside table." Ahsoka dug her elbow into his side. It wouldn't have hurt, that is, if his side wasn't a patchwork of healing bruises. He yelped a little. "What? He was going to find out eventually!" He complained, rubbing at his tender ribs.

Anakin just looked at them. "Wait... you're serious? I was just kidding! When did this happen?!" He exclaimed, looking between the two of them.

"Uhh..." The couple frowned at each other. "Since the hospital after the incident on the Resolute?" Rex considered. Ahsoka shook her head.

"No, when you got back from Umbara."

"I was drunk. I don't think that counts entirely." He crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow.

"You apologised afterwards and then got me the ring anyways. Make up your mind!" She mock-snarled. They held each other's gaze for a few seconds, then Rex smiled.

"Already did. I chose you." He put an arm around her shoulder semi-gingerly and Ahsoka returned the hug, mindful of the bruises.

"Wow. Best entertainment of the aeon and there's no popcorn to be found." Anakin reminded them that he was still there. "Seriously, you two would make a top-selling holoseries." Ahsoka rolled her eyes.

"Alright. Did you just call us to wake us up at an unholy hour, or did you actually have reason to call?" She asked, digging at her eyes with one fist.

"Actually, yes." Anakin shifted his posture slightly, pulling out a datapad. "Padme invited me and Rex to go with her to the first ever sanctioned meeting of the Separatists and the Republic. I'm still busy dealing with firefights in the outer rim, and am unable to attend. Ahsoka, however, is conveniently on leave. Sorry to cut your training and... other activities short-"

"ANAKIN!" Ahsoka interrupted, and her and Rex's faces both darkened considerably in the already-dim light.

"But I need you guys to represent the jedi and the clone army respectively at this meeting. What? You two are literally sharing a bed as we speak, what else would that mean?" He finished before addressing his padawan's outburst.

"I'm a good pillow." Rex shrugged. They shared a laugh at that, ignoring Anakin's confusion.

"Sorry, inside joke." Ahsoka apologised. Anakin shook his head.

"Anyways, you will be going with Senator Amidala to go serve both as bodyguards and representatives. The Separatist... sorry... the Council of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, wasn't too happy about a clone being privy to the negotiations, but they agreed on the terms that they get to choose the place of negotiations." Anakin sighed.

"And... where would that be?" Ahsoka asked tentatively.

"Mandalore." Anakin sighed, and Ahsoka gave a grimace. Rex looked a little confused.

"And that's not very good why?" He asked. Ahsoka blew out a short breath of air.

"Remember when I last went there to help with teaching at the royal academy?" Rex nodded. "I may or may not have gotten into trouble with partially overthrowing the government. I exposed corruption that even the Duchess was oblivious to, and the civilians weren't that impressed with an outsider finding fault with their own government."

Rex winced. "Yeah, that is a little reason not to like you, or the jedi in general. Is the Duchess ok with it at least?"

Ahsoka nodded. Anakin spoke up again. "Anyways, good luck with the scary pacifists. As much as I enjoy time with the senator, I'm glad I'm not in you shoes." He moved to cut the connection. His hand hovered over the button for a second when he paused, looking up at Rex. "Keep her safe captain. Both of them."

"Will do, si-... er... Anakin." He fumbled not to refer to his general formally. With the promise to keep his padawan and senator safe made, Anakin cut the connection. The light winked out, and Ahsoka reached across Rex again to set the commlink on the bedside table. The room was dark again, and Ahsoka fought down the irrational panic at the lack of light. Rex noticed her sudden tensing of muscles as she forced herself to calm down. This was her rooms in the temple. Not the awful cage from Kavado.

"Do you want me to turn on the refresher light?" He asked softly, pulling Ahsoka a little closer despite the aching of his torso. She shook her head, both to clear it and dissuade him.

"N-no. I'll be ok... eventually." She stuttered, wrestling her panic down. It wouldn't stay like that for long, tightening her chest and speeding up her breathing every couple seconds.

Rex couldn't see in the black, but he managed to find the side of her face with one hand, cupping her jaw gently. Ahsoka's eyes were a faint blue in the dark, almost like a lothcat's. His thumb found the dim scar running across her face from the electrowhip on Kiros and traced it gently. Ahsoka curled against him and let out a soft purr, succumbing to sleep.

A/N ~ The phenomena known as the 'birthday' has passed. I may now go back to my original writing schedule once I conquer the second challenge I face known as 'writer's block.' Sorry for the filler chapter, I do have a storyline in mind, I promise. RotD: I speak without a mouth and hear without ears. I have no body, but I come alive with wind. What am I?
