"Ahsoka, Captain Rex, do you have any comments?" Lux asked, looking to the two veterans as they observed the holomap. The plan was simple enough. Ahoka, Lux, and Rex would each discretely place a holoprojector in different, public locations. An increased security patrol would be passing through the market place.

Naturally, they were going to ambush it. Steela would pick off the marching droids. Lux and Saw would take care of the tanks and Ahsoka would stay nearby as a contingency. Rex would be a little ways up the road, but not far away enough for Ahsoka's tastes. Rex resisted the urge to roll his eyes at her defensiveness of him. It was cute at first, but he wasn't torn from his growth tube yesterday.

"You seem to have thought of every plausible angle, but it's the implausible that normally derail plans." Ahsoka said, turning and tilting the holomap to get a better look. "Steela is the most vulnerable on the rooftop. If encountered, us on the ground can blend into the crowd. Being on the rooftop looks more than a little suspicious, so I'd say take a small team of like skilled people for emergency."

She glanced up at Rex, and he nodded his assent. "Are you free lancing the speech or going by a script?" He asked Steela. She gave a small smile.

"Both." She said, and powered down the hologram after glancing at everyone to make sure that they had everything they needed to know.

At least Rex wasn't sewn up inside of a dead animal. The destruction meant some smaller holes in the cities walls were less guarded, so the small party slid through easily. Rex's cowl hid his face, letting him pass as a citizen. Ahsoka's montrals were harder to hide, but there were enough non-humans around to not make it a big deal.

Rex kept a subtle eye on the time, waiting for the patrol and Steela's position on the rooftops. He slid his holoprojector into his hand and stumbled, dropping it on a nearby fountain.

He glanced at the time again, but it wasn't necessary. He saw bursts of telltale blue from Steela's position. It started. Then came the explosion, and he flinched slightly as he felt a dim wave of pain from Ahsoka, dulled from the distance between them.

Oh force no. He took off in a sprint after her, his legs complaining at the movement. He found her slumped by a fruit stand and he skidded to a stop. A small splinter of wood just managed to catch the inside of his arm and draw a red line, not even breaking the skin. He didn't even notice it at first.

Ahsoka was stirring, breathing heavily like she got the wind knocked out of her. A slight bruise was forming on her head near the ridge where her montrals met her forehead. Rex slid an arm under her to support her.

"Oops." She sat up slightly and shook her head to clear it. Rex chuckled.

"That's my line. 'You ok?" He asked, sliding an arm around her rib cage and helped her up. His legs protested even more at the movement. She nodded.

"Yeah, yeah I'm fine. I was just standing a little too close and got thrown back." She muttered. Rex heard Steela's voice as she started her speech to the citizens, and there was some smartering applause and cheers as she addressed them.

Rex rolled his eyes. "Oh, Ahsoka?" He asked keeping a straight face as he showed her the already fading line on his arm. "I got a paper cut."

Ahsoka just stared at him for a second. She opened her mouth to say something, but Rex cut her off.

"Nuh-uh. Don't you dare. Not after that stunt." He said. Ahsoka shut her mouth, her lips quirking up into a smile. She stood on tiptoe to kiss him on the cheek.

"Deal. Now let's move, as soon as Steela's done broadcasting they'll be on us like dogs." She said, pushing away from him and taking a couple steps on her own. Rex nodded as they moved to the rendezvous together. They caught up with Lux along the way.

"Ahsoka! I saw you get thrown back, are you alright?" He asked worriedly. She nodded, pretending not to notice how Rex's hand found it's way around her waist, pulling her closer to him protectively.

"I'm fine Lux. Thanks for the concern." She said. Steela's speech ended, marked by the disappearance of her from Rex's holoprojector by the fountain, which they caught a glimpse of.

"Lux, what's your girlfriend's position?" Ahsoka barked, breaking into a jog. Rex followed suit, keeping pace with her despite his aching muscles. Lux sped up too, groaning.

"She's not my girlfriend." He sighed, but he pulled out his commlink. "Steela, what's your ETA to the rendezvous site?" He asked over the comm. There was a crackling burst from the other end that sounded suspiciously like blaster fire.

"Our position has been compromised, we're splitting up and using the alleyways to cover our escape. Tell Ahsoka thank you, I'd be dead without my team." She said over the comms, grunting as a loud slap echoed from her end, presumably from her hitting the floor of her chosen alley. Ahsoka snorted and leaned to Lux, wiggling out of Rex's hold.

"You're welcome!" She called into the speaker. She could've sworn she heard a chuckle from Steela before the connection was cut. Rex was starting to limp slightly, his legs still unused to the stress of running for a long period of time.

Ahsoka noticed and slowed her pace, waving Lux ahead when he looked back to see why they had slowed down again. He nodded and continued running.

"Wanting your cane back?" She asked, smirking at Rex as he leaned against the wall, stumbling slightly.

"Not on my life. Just getting used to running again." He covered, pushing off the wall and keeping a fast walk next to her as they made their way to the rendezvous.

"Ok, that's fair. I'm sorry I started running without thinking of you." She said. Rex gave her a look.

"You shouldn't have to apologize. I'm getting better, I promise." He grumbled. Ahsoka glanced around the deserted alleyway to double check before sure slid her hand in his.

"I know. I know, love." She smiled up at him, and Rex fought down a smile of his own. He failed, making Ahsoka giggle. She released his hand as they neared the rendezvous.
