Rex made his way cautiously into the alleyway. He jumped off a set of boxes and and onto the floor of an enclosed box like backway. It was about ten feet by ten feet. Fives dropped down behind him, and both of them stopped cold.

The tracks had vanished.

"Haar'chak!" Fives swore, slamming his hand against a grey brick that stood out slightly on the wall. A familiar feel if Rex's gut set him on edge after Fives punched the wall, as if that would do something other than hurt his Euk Vod.

"We were so close!"

"Fives..."

"Only for him to karking disappear!"

The hairs on the back of Rex's neck prickles as Fives kept ranting.

"Skragging hells! Jesse karking died, and for what? Because the not-so-good general karking felt like skragging our friend. Our karking brother."

A flicker of movement caught Rex's eye. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion. He didn't even remember calling on the force, but he lunged at his little brother and knocked him out of he way. A cloaked figure dropped down on them, red blade ignited. The blow would have cut Fives in half if Rex hadn't shoved him. The blow intended for him hit across Rex's back.

He fell to the ground, white hot agony searing though him as the lightsaber cut through his backplate like butter and barely nicked Rex's blacks.

He didn't know what hurt worse, the pain where the plasma blade touched his skin or where his armor melted onto it. A dark chuckle filled his ears. First it sounded like Kenobi, but it slowly morphed into the echoing laugh of Krell from his nightmares.

He saw a hundred different scenes from Umbara, Kavado, and Trandosha all flash across his vision at once before dissolving into blackness.

He felt like he was floating. Here in the quiet black there was no pain, no fear. Naturally it didn't last. First thing he felt was a hard blow to his stomach, like he had belly flopped into the seas of Kamino. Some cadets had taken the plunge, the defective ones. Rex had considered it. He himself was defective already with his hair. He knew the Kaminoans certainly expected him to do it.

He couldn't do it. He wasn't sure which was more cowardly of him. To consider taking the easy way out or not having the sheer guts to do even that. Another sensation broke him out of the memories.

Agony. Pure and sheer agony. It cut away at his neck, his ribs, his spine. There was also a horrifyingly numb slash through the middle of it that he thought would hurt the worst. It didn't, and that scared him.

Then came sound. First a dull ringing, then a loud pulsing that he more felt that heard. His head began to pound and his back followed suit, singing in agony in time to his heartbeat. Then the noise died away, and there was the sound of somebody crying. He trying to ask them who they were. What was wrong. All that came out was a low moan of pain. The crying stopped.

"R-rex-x?" A stuttering voice called. He grunted in response and in relief. It was his Cyare. "Rex, help there's a cage and it's dark and he's in my head Rex. He's in my head." She sobbed even harder. Rex tried to get to his side, to move, to do anything. He managed to turn his head to the side, but even that small movement sent ripples of pain up his back and it hurt. It hurt so bad he couldn't breath for a few seconds.

"I'm... here. Cyare." He croaked when he managed a shallow breath. He heard a shuddering sigh of relief from his girl. She wasn't far from where he was as best as he could tell. She was still crying.

"H-he tore through my shields like they were paper. He saw everything, Rex everything." She ran a hand along the bars of the cage.

"Please let me out. Let me out or kill me. Please. I can't... GET OUT OF MY HEAD!!" She yelled. The sound hurt his ears and started the throbbing all over again.

"'Soka, I can't." He whispered once the pounding died down once more. There was no light to see anything, but the back of his arms felt sticky. Bloody sticky.

"Are you hurt?" She managed, the murmured words trembling and shaking like a frightened tauntaun.

"Yes. Bad." He gasped, coughing then groaning when the movement hurt. "Lightsaber slash across my back, melted my blacks and backplate into my skin, feels like." He shivered despite the burn of the pain.

"Can you feel where the lightsaber got closest to your skin?" All trace of tears were gone from her voice now as her mind dropped into emergency mode.

Rex gave a croaking chuckle that sent another shiver of flame through him. "Nope. Can't feel a thing there. Funny, I thought that spot would hurt the worst." His words were starting to slur again, and he laid his head against the floor and closed his eyes. He felt feverish and achey all over, not just from the burn. He shivered a little more. Achey and cold. Alarm bells rang in his head, but he ignored them. They just made him hurt more. He wanted to sleep.

"Rex?" Ahsoka called into the silence when she no longer could hear his voice. A raspy breath answered her call. Panic welled up in side of her again and she let out a horrible scream. She knew that they were listening, and Rex was dying. She could feel it.

"PLEASE!!" She screamed into the choking blackness, slamming her hand into the bars. A stinging pain met her, and blood ran down her arm. She didn't care. She welcomed the pain. It gave her focus. No one was coming to help Rex.

She reached out with the force. They didn't have the awful creatures to block her, they had full access to everything that was in her head. They could cut her off if she had so much as a cross thought. She drove her hand into the cage again to make her focus. Rex was dying and so she needed to do something. She touched him with the force and began the nearly lethal process of healing.

If she died, all the better. No more pain or torture in that sweet blackness. She really didn't care anymore.
