I'm in my office preparing a presentation for a new project in the company. I'm on my eleventh slide when my phone rang.
I immediately picked up when I saw the CEO's name on the screen.
Tumayo na rin ako para maunat ang mga buto ko sa ilang oras ng pagkakaupo. I went here early in the morning to avoid students at para na rin madami akong magawa.
I glanced at my watch and it's now quarter to eight. I went here in BH at exactly five in the morning and spent the last three hours creating that presentation.
Malapit na ring mag-time.
"Yes, Dad?"
I cleared my throat while waiting for him to talk. It's also been a while since I heard his voice. His grave and compelling voice that always giving me chills.
All the people I know is scared of him. Little do they know that I'm also petrified. I just know how to hide it and swallow the apprehension every time he's around.
"Ilang ulit ko bang sasabihin na mag-tagalog ka." Muntikan ko ng mailayo ang cellphone ko sa tainga ko dahil sa bigla niyang pagsasalita.
"Pasensya na po, Dad." I apologised.
"Nga pala, nabura mo na lahat ng meeting ko ngayon? Ayokong pumunta. Maghahanda pa ako para sa totoong meeting."
'Yong totoong meeting na tinutukoy niya ay meeting with the Vega Corporation. I also just got an email from them expressing their apology for changing the time of the meeting from lunch Time to dinner. Kasi ang mismong President ng Vega Corporation ang sasama para sa Seal of Partnership.
"Dad, nagbago pala sila ng oras. Dinner time na lang daw po. Around 7pm. Pwede pang magbago depende kung anong time sila available."
I waited for him to answer. Naririnig ko ang mahinang pagpapatunog niya ng dila at ang pagbagsak ng mabigat na bagay.
"Akala ko ba lunch? Pinaglololoko ba nila tayo?" Tumaas na ang kanyang boses at alam ko na mangyayari ito.
"Pinalitan nila dahil may gagawin pa ang Vega Corporation's President at hindi siya available hanggang 6 pm."
"President?"
"Opo, Dad. Siya ang pupunta to represent Vega Corporation. Irerepresent niya ang kumpanya niya." I can sense him smirking on the other side of the line. Maging ako hindi ko rin mapigilan ang mapangiti. We've been aiming to Vega Corporation for years. Gustung-gusto talaga naming maging business partner ang mga Vega dahil siguradong madadagdagan ang mga clients namin kapag nangyari 'yon. Madadapuan din kami ng taglay na popularity ng Vega Corporation hanggang sa makilala na rin kami sa ibang bansa. As of now, Xieran's haven't been ringing a bell to some people in every part of the world. That's our main goal.
