Vada

It was dark now, the kind of dark that sucks all of the brightness out of its surroundings; the kind of dark that you're told to fear as a child; the kind of dark you'd run from if you could.

But Vada wasn't running.

She hardly had the strength to pull each foot along as she kept her slow pace, but she didn't want to stop; she couldn't stop.

Stopping meant that the past few days could catch up with her; Not only had Jaden broken her heart, it seemed that he had broken her ex boyfriends nose, and on top of that she was still keeping the secret of what happened with George, that disgusting man.

Maybe bad things really did come in threes after all.

Her head raised slowly as she reached a spot light, the street lamp creating a lonely stage for her in the centre of the damp road, water was rushing down the flood banks, the rain hitting the pavement making the air anything but silent.

"Vada..." a voice croaked from through the black vale, the brittle cold attacking the words as they flowed towards her.

"What, Jae?" She laughed, a slight crazed look in her eyes as she spun to face him, "what could you possibly want to say to me right now?" He flinched, it hurt to see her in this state.

"Vay..." his voice cracked as he met her in the spotlight, however they were anything but a duo at that moment.

"You can do so much better..." he almost had to shout to be heard over the rain, his exhausted body almost being pushed into the floor by the sheer force of the rains lashes.

"Than Ryan?" She questioned, knowing the answer already.

He didn't reply, but the look in his eyes told her all she needed to know.

"Is better you?" She swallowed harshly, her head cocked, desperate to hear his answer.

"No!" Her heart shattered.

"Yes" he said just as quickly, his words almost jumping on top of each other as he watched her face fall.

"Maybe! I don't know, Vay" he admitted, the rain not hiding the tears that fell from his eyes as he stepped closer.

Vada stayed in her spot, not having enough strength to pick her feet up to step backwards.

"Vay please, just listen to me" she turned her head away, closing her eyes as the tears spilt out, "babygirl..." he spoke softly, reaching out his hand to grip her arm, "it's a misunderstanding," she pulled her shoulder back as soon as she felt the contact.

"Don't Jaden, not right now, please" she begged him, her tears turning black as they mixed with her mascara, so much for water proof.

"But, Vay" he stopped, letting out a low breath as he stared into her eyes longingly, "I think that I might love you"

Vada stared at him in disbelief.

She had never seen Jaden so broken. Since the moment she had met him Jaden had always seemed to sure of himself, like nothing could step in his way, but tonight she was seeing a different side of him.

He was broken, his heart worn on his sleeve for the whole world to see, he wanted to rip it off and place it delicately into her hand.

But there was no place for delicacy, especially not here and not now.

And at the same time, Vada had never seen herself so defeated.

Her hair stuck to her forehead in unnatural lines, sliding down her face. Her clothes were wet through and chilled her to the bone, she would need more than a hot showed to warm her up.

Vada had never been completely sure of herself, always second guessing every move she made and ever decision she even thought about; but in that moment she had never been so unsure of her next action, yet so sure of herself.

"That's an awfully long sentence, Jae" she told him, watching his face shatter, he had opened his chest and exposed himself, to him the rejection was like she had stabbed him in the heart.

"Vay..." he started, heart break in his eyes, but they both knew he didn't have an ending to the sentence.

"Goodbye, Jae" she whispered, stepping close to him, placing her hands into his chest and pushing up onto her toes; she inched her face closer to his, feeling his chest moving rapidly as he waited for her next action.

She turned, lightly pressing her lips to his cheek, tasting the salt of his tears.

She slowly backed away, keeping her eyes trained on the broken boy in front of her, his eyes still closed as he held only their last moment together.

"Goodbye...rockstar" her voice cracked as she sniffed, turning around slowly and making her way out of the yellow circle on the floor that the light made.

"Vay" she heard splashing from behind her as Jaden ran towards her, grasping her arm and spinning her around.

His hands rested on her waist, gripping it tightly as if he was scared of letting go, that if he let her slip out of his grip he'd never be this close to her again.

He pulled her roughly towards him, pressing his lips against hers, and to nobodys surprise she kissed him back just as hard, not ready to give up on him either.

But she had to.

Vada pushed his chest away, watching his eyes crack as she grasped his hands, prying them from her waist.

"No, Jae" she whispered as she walked away, not being stopped this time.

"No"
