Draco shut the journal, as he looked down to his son. They were staying in the drawing room where the story telling began.
It was already dawn now. Earlier ago, his little son, Scorpius, asked about his ring that sat on his pinky.
"But your ring is no wedding ring, dad," he pointed it out.
"You're right it's no wedding ring but for me it is a special ring."
Being the curious little kid he was, he asked, "Why?"
"It was a gift from her."
The flashback was over and then reality hits him. She was gone. It's been years now and yet he still remembers her. Scorpius will start as a third year student this September.
"Do you think y/n and mummy will be friends in heaven, papa?" he asked.
"Oh, I think they will," answered Draco. "So, are you ready to go out and buy stuff for your school?"
The boy happily nodded and ran back to his room to get his beanie. With his wife gone, Draco was left alone with his son. Life has been tough around him. After knowing that y/n died, he never felt like he wanted to go on.
The trio came and called it a truce, and finally befriended Draco. They helped him to recover from his state. Once he was slowly moving on, he still wanted y/n's dream to come true.
Draco set his time doing philanthropic works, setting up charities for kids and visiting hospitals. That's when he found Astoria. He fell in love with her. Loving Astoria was different than y/n.
And then Scorpius came to the scene, Draco never felt better. It was his kid that made him stronger day by day. It was one of the reasons why he got up in the morning. When he finally have a family on his own, he tried to forget everything— even the cottage that he bought for him and y/n.
But things went upside down when his wife got ill, leading her to an instant death. It was like y/n all over again.
During that time, he was miserable.
"I'm ready!" screamed Scorpius. Draco held his hand, ready to apparate, but Scorpius stopped him. "Will you give the ring to me, dad?"
Draco looked at the ring. The promise ring. "Do you promise me that you will keep it safe?"
"A million times yes. That's a pinky promise," replied Scorpius, lifting his pinky to his dad. Draco stopped for awhile. Y/n used to say this when they were still together.
Both of their pinky were intertwined.
"Okay. Better keep that promise."
Soon, the two of them apparated at Diagon Alley. Loads of kids were seen at every shops. It was very crowded since school is going to start in a couple of days. Scorpius looked at every shop. He doesn't feel like energetic anymore. Usually, when they visit Diagon Alley, they'd go here as a family, but with his mother gone, he felt sad. He misses his mother so much.
Draco saw the melancholic expression from his son's face.
"Hey, what's wrong?" he asked, bending on one knee.
"Nothing. I just miss mummy," sighed Scorpius.
"I miss her too. Now, don't be sad. We'll get some ice cream," said Draco. The sadness from Scorpius' face was vanished. He jumped up and down, excited to order a vanilla ice cream.
Despite of Draco being miserable in his life, he managed to be in touch with his son. He did all of his best for him. Growing up with a father, who tormented him and made him to think like his father was beyond traumatising for Draco. And now, it was his chance to be the father that he wanted to have growing up, not like his bully father.
