november second- the question of quidditch
~ Addison ~
It was only November, and yet it felt as if it was already March.
So much had happened since we came back from the holiday. Seeing Draco again, the thing with him and Harry, Ernie and Fawn's situation, starting NEWT classes, Draco's ignorance, Hogsmeade, and the fight, just to name a few. I hadn't spoken to Justin since that day. Any time I saw him in the common room, I would walk in the opposite direction.
Meals were weird. He would rarely show up, so I was able to sit with our friends still. If he did grace us with his presence, I would get up and walk away, usually to go sit with Draco, but if he wasn't there I would go back to the common room.
The constant back and forth had made time feel warped, which is part of why it seemed as if it was already March. But it wasn't.
Today was only the first Quidditch match of the year. Slytherin was playing Gryffindor, so I decided to go to support Draco.
I was wearing his Quidditch jumper when Fawn questioned me in our dormitory.
"Are you going to the match today?" she asked.
"Well yeah," I said, dumbfounded by her oblivious nature. "That would be why I'm wearing his sweater." I turned slightly so she could see his name and number on the back. "Are you going?"
"Ainsley and I were talking about it, but we're not sure."
"What were we talking about?" Ainsley asked as she entered the room.
"The Quidditch match today between Slytherin and Gryffindor," I answered. "Are you two going to watch?"
She looked at me hesitantly, her eyes flitting between me and Fawn.
"I don't think so," she mumbled.
"Why not? We could sit together and make jokes about everyone's ridiculous get up."
"Addie," Fawn said, prompting me to turn to face her. "Justin asked us to meet with him today to talk. I said no, of course-"
"But you said yes?" I asked Ainsley, looking at her with my hurt displayed on my face.
"I said I didn't know yet," she argued.
"He fucking hit me!"
"You did step in front of Malfoy-"
"But he still hit me-"
"I know, but-"
"But what, Ains? He was the one who went after Draco. He was the one who threw the first punch. He started everything! The worst part was that he was fighting my boyfriend over me!"
"Justin wasn't fighting him because of you. I mean, he was, but not because he fancies you and you know that! He went after him because he's a Death Eater-"
"Are you fucking kidding me? How many times do I have to tell you that he's not a Death Eater? He loves me. There's no way he could love me, a muggle-born, might I remind you, and still be one of them. Is his father one? Yes. But that does not mean he is, and this is the last time I will remind you of that!"
Ainsley crossed her arms over her chest and looked at me, her eyes deep in thought. I couldn't look at her anymore, so I turned to see Fawn.
"I'm going down to get breakfast now and then I was going to go over to the pitch. Are you coming with me or not?" I asked.
