december twenty-third- smiles

I woke up yet again encapsulated in Draco's arms, this time, with my head resting on his chest. He was so warm, a stark opposite of the chilly winter air. His arms were around me protectively, one of his hands gently playing with my hair.

"Morning sleepyhead," he said in a raspy low voice.

I groaned tiredly and rubbed my eyes. "How long have you been awake? And what time is it?"

"It's 9:30. And I haven't been awake very long, uh maybe 20 minutes?"

"Why didn't you wake me? I didn't mean to keep you here," I said, rolling over so he would be free of me.

"If I had woken you up, you probably would have hit me with a pillow, which wouldn't have been the best way to start my day. Plus, it was nice. You were warm, and no offence but your house is extremely cold today."

"Fair points," I said, watching him as he sat up and ran his hands through his hair, trying to fix it from its messy state of slumber. "Don't fix it," I said, grabbing his hands from his head and placing a quick kiss on his lips. "It looks better when it's messy."

He rolled his eyes and gave in to my hands. "If you say so." He leaned in, connecting our lips again, this time slowly and with more subtle intensity than ever before.

A smile began to break out on my lips as he kissed me, to which he pulled back in annoyance.

"Why are you so bloody smiley all the time? It makes it really hard to snog you."

"Well I'm sorry that you make me smiley," I said with a small giggle before kissing him quickly again. "I can't help it." He rolled his eyes. 'All I'm saying is that you'd be way cuter if you smiled more."

"I smile plenty," he said with a scowl.

"I've only seen you smile maybe once-"

"Well maybe I don't smile because I'm not happy," he said abruptly. My face dropped. Was he serious? He picked up on my change and spoke again. "That's a lie... I didn't mean that. I am happy... but only when I'm with you." He looked down at his hands in mine and his ears grew red.

"Then you should smile more," I teased, leaving his hands in his lap and cupping his face. I plastered a silly grin on my face to try to make him smile. He chuckled quietly and pressed his lips into a straight line. "See? Like this." I said, demonstrating my goofy grin once again. His face grew redder as he worked harder to keep his lips from turning upwards. I moved my thumbs to the corners of his mouth and gently tried to pull them into a small smile.

His eyes shot up to mine and his hands cupped my face, pulling my lips against his yet again. I abandoned my cause and gave into his hands, kissing him back with the same passion he displayed.

He pulled back and moved one of his hands from my cheek to my jawline, tracing it without much thought. "Don't do that, please," he said quietly.

"I'm sorry," I whispered back.

"You don't have to be sorry."

"I know you're happy, I really do. It's just, I want you to be comfortable enough to be unapologetically happy. I'm not going to judge you." His eyes flit down into his lap. I reached my hand out and placed it on his cheek. He leaned into it ever so slightly, spurring a small smile to grow on my lips. "We only have so much time here before we have to go back to school, and, although I don't want them to, things will probably go back to normal. I just want us to have this time before we have to worry about everyone else again."
