warning: insecurities
i know (trust me i know) that a few supportive words don't fix everything, but this is just a short preference chapter so it doesn't include the aftermath or anything — the point of this is not that a man telling you you're beautiful will automatically take your insecurities away, but the point is them being there for you in your time of need
but also a reminder: you are all beautiful and amazing the way you are, and whoever says otherwise isn't worth your time. YOU ALL SLAY.

STEFAN: "I hate this stupid dress and I hate my body. Why can't I fit into anything? I'm so ugly and fat", you moaned and threw another dress away from you. You and Stefan were supposed to go to a party, but it seemed like you had nothing to wear. You weren't the skinniest person in the world, which was something that you had tried to become more comfortable with. In this moment though, all that newly gained confidence flew out the window. "Okay, first of all, stop, and never say that again. Secondly, you are beautiful. Just because you're not one of those unrealistic models from Damon's stupid magazines, it doesn't mean you're ugly. You are perfect no matter what", Stefan pulled you into a hug, "now let's skip this party and do something more fun instead", only ever wanting you to be comfortable.

DAMON: With a pretty girl like Elena always prancing around the Salvatore house, it was easy for you to grow insecure in her company, especially when it seemed her presence always drew the attention of both brothers — even Damon's, who was supposed to be your boyfriend. "I know I'm nothing compared to Elena, so Damon... please stop lying to me. If you don't want to be with me, I'll get over it eventually, but I don't want to live in a lie. I know I'm—", you began on one day, right after insisting you were fine. Before you could finish, Damon interrupted. "Don't. Don't say it", he shook his head, making his way over to you. "Elena is pretty, yeah, sure, but you know what? You are the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen, so you stop lying, and trust me when I say that you are not ugly, and I could never hurt you."

JEREMY: "This is such bullshit. I look so freaking ugly ", you whispered to yourself while looking at yourself from a mirror in a dressing room. "What was that?", you heard Jeremy's voice from the other side of the curtain. With your hesitant permission, he stepped inside, and looked at you with raised eyebrows. "Um, I think you and I have different definitions of the word ugly" he said with a grin, unable to draw his stare away from you. "You look smoking hot in that, okay?", Jeremy definitely approved of the dress you had decided to fit, and breaking into a shy smile, you thanked him for the much needed confidence boost. Perhaps you'd need to bring him with you to every shopping trip.

ELIJAH: You were always wondering how you ever got so lucky to have Elijah — he was way out of your league, and honestly, it constantly made you doubt yourself. And Elijah, well, he was always determined to make you feel otherwise. "I can see it in your eyes, Y/N", his warning, but soft tone caught your attention, yet when you faced him his eyes were still glued to the pages of his newspaper. "I assure you, my love, you are nothing short of divine", he promised quickly, and you just shook your head. "I'm ugly", you nodded towards the mirror in front of you, and at this, Elijah's head finally snapped up and the newspaper was long forgotten. "Tell me, why do you think that? What about... this could ever make you feel that way?", he questioned while approaching you, turning you to the mirror before placing his lips on your shoulder. "You are not ugly, and I will repeat this until my very last breath, you have my word."

KLAUS: Social media could be so cruel — you knew this, yet you always came crawling back to the addictive apps. But they were always a strike straight at your confidence, knocking you down a peg as you read through the comments of your latest selfie. You were ugly. So ugly. With a tear sliding from the corner of your eye, you deleted the photo, all of them. "What is wrong?", Klaus' accent startled you suddenly, and wiping your eyes, you shook your head. "Nothing, it's nothing", you gave a weak smile, but when Klaus simply gave you a disapproving look due to the blatant lie, you broke. "I'm ugly, aren't I?", you cried into your hands, and with expanding anger at whoever had caused this, your boyfriend sat next to you on the couch, letting his sympathy overcome his fury. "You are not. You are beautiful, Y/N. Now tell me, what can I do to help? What do you need?"

KOL: "I look awful, I swear. Why can't I be one of the pretty people?", you whimpered while staring at yourself in the bathroom, your insecurities an uncontrollable wildfire. You heard Kol burst into laughter in the bedroom, and in an instant you were upset, because it was like he was thinking the same way. You looked down and let tears fall to your cheeks, which made him jump up from the bed and rush over to you. "Oh, no, darling, I didn't mean it like that. I laughed, because that must be a joke. Your body is perfect and you are so beautiful and amazing and sexy and nowhere near ugly. I love you, okay?", he said and kissed you intensely, making you smile and feel a little better. Luckily for you, he was going to be there every step of the way to help you build a stronger self-esteem.
