DESTINY 71 - PREPARATION

CHASE POV

"Magaling ka na sa pakikipaglaban pero kailangan mo pang mahasa." Rekx pushed one of the bookshelves in Yuri's library and my jaw dropped as an spacious area appeared before my eyes.

What the freaking hell!

Alam kong malaki ang kwarto ni Yuri pero mas may ilalaki pa pala!

We stepped inside and Rekx threw a bow and set of arrows to me. I expertly caught them and in a swift move, shot all the targets he threw in the air. He then went to the other end of the room and pulled different ropes. Each rope he pulled, a target turned up from different spots. It was easy to shoot them---not until four or five targets turned up at the same time.

Ilang mga target ang hindi ko natamaan. Hindi nagtagal, napalibutan na ako. Rekx got a hold of a bow and set of arrows, run like the speed of lightning and shot all the remaining targets which left me agape.

"We have to work more on your agility as well as your sensitivity. Hindi ka lang dapat marunong umatake, dapat magaling ka rin makiramdam sa paligid mo. A ruffling of a leaf, a footstep, a soft whistling of the wind---those are just simple sounds but those same simple sounds can save your life."

I nodded.

"This is Yuri's personal training room." Tukoy niya sa kwarto. "He has this attitude that whenever he's in training, he doesn't want to be disturbed. So, pinagawa niya ito. He can spend his whole day here, just training. There were times where he didn't leave his room for days."

That's a not surprise. His room is already like a house.

"I will train you here, okay?"

Wala naman akong problema kung magsasanay ako ulit. I am actually exhilarated to train. I want to be equipped more.

Just like my training with Captain, my day starts way before the sun rise and ends with the moon already shining. 

Isang buwan ang naging pagsasanay ko. Paggamit ng pana bago pa sumikat ang araw, sparring kasama niya sa umaga at pagbabasa ng kung anu-anong aklat sa hapon hanggang bago matulog.

Ang pagpana at sparring, naintindihan ko pero ang pagbabasa ng mga aklat? Daig ko pa ang kukuha ng board exams sa dami ng gusto niyang basahin ko!

Isinandal ko ang likod sa upuan, ipinikit ang mga mata saka hinilot ang mga iyon. I'm drained with all the information I'm reading on medicinal plants. He said I will also be having a test for him to see what I've learned. I wonder kung may enumeration din parang sa school. Damn! Mas napapagod pa ako rito kaysa sa mga pisikal na pagsasanay.

Matapos ang isang buwan, dinala niya ako sa bukana ng isang kagubatan.

"You're lucky," tinangala niya sa langit. "It's full moon and it's shining brightly."

I stared at the endless sea of stars, making the sky serene.

"Ready for your test?"

Dahan-dahang napunta kay Rekx ang atensyon ko. "Test? Here?"

"Yes." He replied directly. "Wear this." He handed an eye mask.

Kunut-noong tinanggap ko iyon. "You want me to wear this?" Pagkumpirma ko.

He nodded. 

I scanned the area, not liking the idea playing in my mind. 

"Well?" He pressed.

"May I ask why?" My hands are sweating despite the cold breeze of the night.

"This is a test, Chase," was all he said.
