DESTINY 73 - VALLEY OF DEATH

CHASE POV

Yesh walked towards us, eyes locked on her best friend. "You brought him here?"

Ellie answered with a small nod.

Yesh fell silent for a couple of seconds. "Hindi mo magagawa 'to maliban na lang kung may nag-utos sa 'yo." She glanced at Rekx and back at Ellie again. Her eyes glimmered. "Sa akin ka nakatalaga, Ellie. Bakit si Rekx ang sinunod mo?"

"Yes---"

"That's enough grounds for me to relieve you from your position!" She suddenly snapped.

"Then do it, Rygilia!" Ellie screamed back, with the same ferocity.

Yesh was taken aback. "What did you call me?" She asked in disbelief.

"If you want to relieve me from my position, then do it."

"What did you call me?" Yesh repeated her inquiry with pain stricken eyes.

"Yesh...ginawa ko lang naman 'to dahil---"

"Did you just call me Rygilia?" Pain coated her words.

"Yesh... I know I'm wrong. So, if you want to relieve me from my position, I will accept it. And yes, I called you Rygilia."

"So, you think this is about positions?"

Ellie can't find words to answer her question.

"It's not, Ellie." Tears stream down Yesha's face. "This is about my best friend breaking my trust. How can you do this to me? Alam mo lahat ng pinagdaanan ko. Lahat ng sakit. Lahat ng hirap. Lahat ng takot. Lahat, Ellie. How can you betray me? Of all people, bakit ikaw pa? Bakit ikaw pa na pinagkakatiwalaan ko ng lahat. Maging ng buhay ko."

Hindi nakasagot si Ellie at napatungo na lang, hindi napigilan ang pagragasa ng mga luha niya.

"Hindi lang kita basta kaibigan, kapatid kita. Tapos ngayon tatawagin mo ako sa posisyon ko? Tell me, kailan ko ginamit sa 'yo ang pagiging Rygilia ko? Was there any instance that I did?"

Ellie shook her head, still unable to meet her friend's gaze.

"I am furious that you brought him here, but my best friend betraying me is way more painful. Kahit anong isip ko, hindi ako makahanap ng sagot kung paano mo nagawa sa 'kin 'to."

Ellie held Yesha's hands. "We need a captain, Yesh. Kuya believed in him and I do too."

Binawi ni Yesha ang mga kamay at tinakpan ang mga mata upang ikubli ang mga luhang walang patid na kumakawala mula roon.

"Are you saying...that you are also one of the people who wants him to be the captain?" Yesha's question came out as a whisper.

"It's Kuya's last wish," was all Ellie can say.

Hindi na sumagot si Yesha at basta na lang kami tinalikuran. Ngunit bago pa siya makapaglakad palayo, hinawakan ni Ellie ang kamay niya. "Yesh...please understand. I did this for Kuya and our people. Kailangan ng sandatahan ng mamumuno sa kanila. Para protektahan ang mga tao natin. Oo, nakatalaga na ako sa 'yo pero sandatahan pa rin ako. May tungkulin pa rin akong protektahan ang mga tao natin. Kailangan namin si Chase."

"Kailangan ko rin siya. How can you forget that?"

"I did not---"

"Then why? Why did you do this?"

"Yesh---"

"Alam mo ang pagdadaanan niya."

"Kaya niya." Giit ni Ellie. "Hindi ka ba naniniwala na kaya niya?"
