I got evil on my mind

It brings teardrops to my eyes

And sends chills all down my spine

                                  ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

March 3rd, 2012, Shield compound, New York. Alice had been at the Shield compound for almost seven months. Slowly, she began to remember nearly everything from her past life with the help of the dozens of doctors dedicated to her case. It was a long and difficult process, but she was doing her best. She even let everyone call her Alice, rejecting the name Forsaken that filler her with disgust. The only thing she couldn't remember was who wrote and placed that note on her jacket.

Steve visited her almost every day, just for casual conversations, becoming a regular presence in her life. Their talks spanned from the simple to the profound, creating a real connection. It was during these moments that the layers of her past life began to peel away.

As the pair talked, Steve shared his experiences, creating a bridge between his past and her uncertain present. In return, Alice gradually opened up about the fragments of her memory that were starting to surface, like pieces of a puzzle falling into place. Steve was always patient and understanding, which made her feel safe to explore even further the depths of her long-forgotten past. Their conversations formed a bridge, linking two different timelines.

She was no longer handcuffed to her bed. The doctors had moved her to a bigger room with a nice view to the city. Alice was allowed to walk around the compound, but she could not leave. It was fine by her; she knew she was not well enough to get out.

"Hey Steve," she smiled as soon as she saw him enter her room.

"Hi Alice," he responded, hiding something behind his back, which didn't escape Alice's curious gaze.

"What are you hiding over there?" she asked while walking up to him.

"I heard today was your birthday, so I wanted to give you something nice," he gave her the bouquet of yellow roses he was previously trying to hide, "Happy birthday, Alice."

She happily accepted the bouquet, savouring its fragrance. A bittersweet emotion washed over her. It was the first time someone had given her a birthday present. "I didn't even know today was my birthday... Thank you so much Steve, that was very kind of you. Wait, how old am I?"

"You were born in 1984, so you should be 28, but don't worry. You look 23, maximum," he chuckled.

"Yeah, that is what being in cryogenic sleep for years does to you..." she said, sitting on her bed and burying her face in her hands in an attempt to conceal the emotions on her face.
