We could steal time just for one day

We can be heroes for ever and ever

Alice stood off to the side, watching as Bruce Banner fiddled nervously with buttons on a control panel. The air was thick with tension, the unspoken weight of what was at stake hanging over them like a storm cloud. Scott, wearing his Ant-Man suit, stood near the back of his van, the Quantum Tunnel's shimmering interior beckoning with possibilities. Natasha and Steve flanked Bruce, their expressions a mix of determination and unease.

"Okay, here we go. Time travel test number one. Scott, fire up the, uh... the van thing," Bruce announced, his voice shaking slightly, betraying the nerves he was trying to mask.

Scott looked at the van and then back at the group, opening the portal. It flickered to life with an otherworldly hum, casting eerie shadows on their faces.

"Breakers are set, emergency generators are on standby," Steve confirmed, his steely gaze fixed on Bruce, who looked more anxious than ever.

Alice shot Scott a quick grin, attempting to inject some levity into the moment. "You got this, Ant-Man. Just try not to bring back a T-Rex or something," she crossed her arms and flashed a smirk. "Or a really awkward teenager. I mean, who needs that drama? Not like we have enough of it around here."

Her humour was a thin veil over the anxiety bubbling just beneath the surface. The thought of Bucky lingered in her mind, intensifying with every passing moment.

"Good," Bruce spoke, trying to regain some semblance of control. "'Cause if we blow the grid, I don't wanna lose Tiny here in the 1950's."

Scott's eyes widened. "Excuse me? I can't take Alice's jokes because she's not the one who worked on the time machine, but you... you're the one who basically made it work!" He exclaimed, his voice laced with panic.

Natasha tried to flash a reassuring smile to Scott, "He's kidding." She leaned in close to Bruce then, "You can't say things like that!"

"Just... It was a bad joke," Bruce said quickly, glancing between them, a hint of regret in his eyes.

Nat frowned, whispering urgently, "You were kidding, right?"

Bruce, now whispering back, replied, "I have no idea. We're talking about time travel here. Either it's all a joke, or none of it is." He turned to Scott and raised his thumb. "We're good! Get your helmet on, Scott. I'm gonna send you back a week, let you walk around for an hour, then bring you back in 10 seconds. Makes sense?"

"Perfectly not confusing," Scott said dryly, his voice tight, but he managed a wry smile that belied his anxiety.

"Good luck, Scott. You got this," Steve encouraged, a reassuring hand on Scott's shoulder.

Scott puffed up his chest, determination flashing in his eyes. "You're right. I do, Captain America."

With a nod from Bruce, he pressed a button, and Scott vanished into the Quantum Tunnel.
