Awake in a dream where I'm barely breathing

I fall to my knees and I can't stop screaming

So how could it be that you look right through me

And you don't hear a thing?

As soon as the Quinjet was back at the Shield headquarters, Alice and Steve wasted no time and headed straight to Fury's office to clarify what had happened on the mission with Natasha. They needed to know if Shield's integrity was compromised or not.

"You just can't stop yourself from lying, can you?" Steve snapped at Fury upon entering his office.

"I didn't lie," Fury responded, looking out of his window. "Agent Romanoff had a different mission than yours and Onyx's."

"And you didn't think you had to share that with us?" Alice questioned the director, slightly angry.

"I don't have to share anything I don't want to," Fury replied before he finally turned to face them. "I sent the greatest soldier in history and the most skilled person I have ever seen to make sure that didn't happen."

"Soldiers trust each other," the captain spat. "That's what makes it an army. Not a bunch of guys running around shooting guns."

"Last time I trusted someone," Fury got up from his chair, "I lost an eye. Look, I didn't want you two doing anything you weren't comfortable with. Agent Romanoff is comfortable with everything."

"I can't lead a mission when the people I'm leading have missions of their own," Steve declared.

"It's called compartmentalization," Fury refuted. "Nobody spills the secrets, because nobody knows them all."

"You know them all, Fury," Alice said sarcastically, unamused by Shield's questionable practices.

"You're wrong about me. I do share. I'm nice like that," Fury stated before going to the elevator, signalling for them to follow. "Insight bay."

"Captain Rogers and Agent Onyx do not have clearance for Project Insight," the AI responded. Alice checked the small screen on the elevator door, revealing Fury was a level 10, Steve a level 8, and herself a level 7 – that's what you get for being a brainwashed ex-assassin, she thought to herself.

"Director override. Fury, Nicholas J.," he replied.

"Confirmed," the AI accepted his request, and the elevator doors closed.

Alice and Steve stood next to each other, unsure of what to do or say, while Fury stood a few feet away.

"You know, they used to play music," Steve tried to break the silence.
