Nobody said it was easy

No one ever said it would be this hard

Alice had just settled into her small New York apartment after months of traveling and self-reflection. The familiar hum of the city outside was a comforting reminder of home, but she found herself longing for some connection, some sense of normalcy after everything she had been through.

Her phone buzzed on the coffee table, pulling her from her thoughts. She glanced at the screen and saw Tony Stark's name. Surprised, she hesitated before answering.

"Hey, Tony," she said, trying to keep her voice steady.

"Hey, Alice. Long time no talk," Tony's voice crackled through the phone. "I know it's been a while, but I was catching up with Natasha and she mentioned your recent travels. It sounded like quite the journey."

Alice smiled softly at the mention of Natasha. "Yeah, it was. I've been trying to find my footing again."

"Well, I was thinking, Pepper and I would love to catch up with you. It's been almost three years since we last talked. How about coming over for dinner? We're up at the cabin, you remember it?"

Alice raised an eyebrow. "Dinner? At your lakeside cabin? That sounds... unexpected."

"Yeah, I know. But it's been too long. I think it would be nice to catch up. How about this Saturday?"

Alice considered the offer. The idea of reconnecting with Tony intrigued her. "Alright, Saturday it is."

"Great! We'll make it a relaxed evening, and–" Tony's voice softened, "Morgan would love to meet you. She's been asking about the 'cool Auntie Alice' Natasha told her about."

Alice chuckled, touched by the sentiment. "I'd like that. I'll be there."

"We're looking forward to it. See you soon."

After ending the call, Alice found herself smiling. She hadn't realized how much she missed her old friends. She quickly made arrangements for the visit and looked forward to catching up with Tony and meeting his family.

The weekend arrived quickly. The sun was beginning to set as Alice arrived at Tony's lakeside cabin. It was even more inviting than she remembered – nestled among tall pines with a stunning view of the lake.

As she walked up the path to the cabin, the door swung open before she even had a chance to knock. Tony stood there, his usual smirk in place. "Alice! Welcome! It's great to see you."

"Hey, Tony. Thanks for inviting me," Alice said, stepping inside and looking around. The cabin was warm and inviting, with large windows offering a beautiful view of the outside.

Pepper emerged from the kitchen, wiping her hands on a dish towel. "Alice, it's so good to see you again!"

Alice hugged her warmly. "Pepper, it's nice to see you too."
