"Come on, Asher. He'll get over it eventually" Evelyn reasoned.
"I hope so" Asher muttered.
Evelyn started walking in the opposite direction, with Asher and Rose following her.
Rose smiled a little while walking, in spite of the tense situation that just occurred. "That was sweet of you to stand up for me". Asher responded with a smile in her direction.
Evelyn didn't say a word. She just observed with narrowed eyes what was going on.
"You're a really sweet guy, ya know".
Asher smiled again at Rose's words. "Thanks, you're not so bad yourself"
"Uh, where do you live, Rose?" Evelyn piped up.
Rose turned to Eve. "Not to far luckily, just two or three more streets"
"Yeah...Luckily" Eve echoed the last word and went silent again.
Rose raised an eyebrow at the final word. Asher looked over at Eve. "C'mon now, be nice"
"No, I'm being genuine. It is a good thing" Evelyn played with her hair nervously.
Have I spent too much time around Matt?
"How is that nice?" Asher tilted his head slightly.
"Uh...So..so you're less likely...to be in danger...It's not that far"
"Okay yeah that makes sense... sorry for assuming -" Asher apologized.
"It's alright..."
Rose piped up to lighten the mood again. "Awe, you're standing up for me again"
This can't be happening... Evelyn thought. She could hear Asher slightly giggling with Rose again.
Thank god we didn't have to walk for long...
Not too long after, Rose stopped walking. "Here we are"
Evelyn looked up at the house. "It's pretty nice"
Rose smiled. "Thanks"
Eve looked at Asher to see what he was doing.
Asher was smiling up at the house. "Well, I'm glad we got you home safe".
Rose smiled. Only the fifth or sixth time today. "Thanks again"
"See ya soon...Be safe" Evelyn said hesitatingly. It was so weird to talk kindly to someone that you only know the bad side of. Well, not exactly bad. Just extremely rude.
"Thanks, the both of you" Rose waved at the two before going up to her house. Asher gave a small wave back.
Evelyn sighed. "Come on then, my dad will get mad if I arrive late"
"Let's get going then" Asher turned to Eve with a nod.
"Okay"
After that, conversation between the two seemed to have died down. Evelyn was mostly looking aside as she walked, her mind buzzing with thoughts. She wondered what Asher had on his mind...
Asher had one thing on his mind, and it was surprisingly Rose. His thoughts going from being worried for her, to thinking about how nice she actually was.
"What made you do it, Asher?" Evelyn suddenly piped up.
"Do what?"
"Do that for Rose..."
"Her friend is dead, and her other friend is MIA. You wouldn't wanna walk home alone if you were in her shoes"
"I know...I'm sorry that Mike didn't see it that way. I don't wanna end up picking a side, and I know Mara wouldn't want to either"
"Yeah... It's fine.. I just hope he comes to his senses soon" Asher reassured Eve with a wave of his hand.
"Me too..." Evelyn nodded in agreement.
It went painfully awkward again, up until they got to Evelyn's house.
"So...I guess I'll see you tomorrow, Asher"
"Yeah. See ya tomorrow, Eve"
Eve waved briefly at the boy before she left him.
Asher let out a small sigh before walking back to his own house.
