Chapter written by me.
Our mysterious Mr Anderson made it to school on time. He was walking peacefully until...
"Matt!" A voice called behind him.
Matthew stopped and turned to face who called him with a neutral look.
The bubbly boy caught up to him.
"Do you have to be this loud, Michael?" Matt asked, exasperated.
Mike just rolled his eyes.
"Oh lighten up, it's like you don't want anybody to know your name, which everyone does, by the way"
"It's not that, Henderson" Matt grinned at him.
"I sometimes wish you didn't have as much energy. It's mentally taxing for me"Mike patted his shoulder.
"That is the price of having a best friend. You have to admit though, we're a perfect match""Ain't that the truth. So what's up?" Matt continued to walk, with his friend following beside him.
"Nothing new. You?"
"Same. It's exciting"
Mike sighed.
"Yeah...I wish we could just have somewhere fun to go with more people""Hey, it could be worse, dude" Matt reasoned.
"You're right. I just wish, we were like those popular kids" Mike stated.
The other boy looked at him in disbelief.
"In social circles, not character" Mike clarified.
"Still, I'd rather have you and stay me than have everybody and be a butt"
"That is...unusually sweet of you to say, Matty". Mike smiled.
"I have my way with words". Suddenly, Matthew remembered something.
"Speaking of words, I'm afraid to say, I already planned to sit with someone during lunch"Mike stared at him before widening his smile.
"A girl?" He teased, but he partially wished he was right.Matt shook his head.
"Evan" He answered."Evan? That's the boy who sits next to you in class, right?" Mike inquired. He didn't really know the boy as well as Matt.
"Evan Clark. That's the one"
"You remember his last name?" Mike asked in surprise.
"What are you talking about? I know everyone's full names in our class"
Mike shook his head.
"Of course you do. Anyways, why are you gonna sit with him? Did you two discover you're not straight?" He giggled childishly to himself.Matt looked straight ahead.
"Not quite. We're sitting together for writing practice""Writing practice?"
"Didn't I tell you?"
"No?" Mike responded, unsure.
"Well now you know"
"You take writing a bit too seriously, Matt. You're gonna have a burnout someday". Mike said, worried.
Matt waved a hand in dismissal.
"I'll be fine. I'm trained for this, unlike you" He teased.Mike gave out an overly exaggerated and sarcastic laugh.
Then he realized something.
"Where am I gonna sit at lunch then?"Matt looked at him.
"I never said you couldn't sit with us" He replied, relaxed."Oh, okay"
"Settled just in time" Matthew was referring to the fact that they arrived to class.
"I'd rather not go in, to be honest" Michael whined.
"Same here, if I had a choice"
And so, Matt and Mike entered the room and sat down.
There were quite a few of them already there.
Including Evelyn Miller.
"There he is" She mused.
Matthew never noticed her gazing at him.
She herself never knew how it started.
They shared a few classes, never had an actual conversation. Yet, she found herself looking at him like she never did with any boy here.
And it was a bit cruel and ironic, how he was the only one who didn't look at her like that.Evelyn studied him further. His hair is black, short and messy, his eyes blue.
It wasn't just appearance, though. He was always calm, collected and levelheaded and focused on schoolwork.
It was hard for her to admit, even to herself.
She liked him, a lot.
She would act on it later.
She turned to pay attention to the lesson.
Unbeknownst to her, someone else took notice of her weird movements.
