"Yes. Maybe it should have been you"

"Not maybe. It should have, and I swear to god If you hurt her, I will make your life a living hell"

Matt once again, nodded in favor of avoiding a confrontation. Though, it wasn't exactly submissive, it was more like agreement.

"I got you, buddy. I wouldn't want to have flat jokes thrown at me all day. See you soon" And with that, Matthew left the scene all cool and composed but truthfully, this "talk" made him torn inside even more but he would not dwell on it until he got home.

Asher rolled his eyes and walked off to his own house. As he made his way home, He was cut off by another female voice.

"Ash. What was that about?" He turned to see Jordi walking his way.

"Nothing, Jords"

"It was something" As Jordi reached where Asher was, the former turned to face her fully.

"I was just knocking some words of wisdom into that guy"

Jordi rose an eyebrow.

"Jords. It's nothing. Go back to your beauty routines"

Jordi laughed a bit. "We both know I don't do that. So tell me, what was it about?"

" I told ya Jordi. Knocking some sense into him" Asher's walk continued, with Jordi following close behind.

After a bit longer of Jordi trying to pry it out of him, she gave up, waved to him, and walked the other way.

Asher didn't pay her any mind and continued walking.

What is going on? Why am I not with her? Why is she with him?

These thoughts continued to haunt him for the rest of the day. The sad thing is, he really liked Mike but Mike was Matt's friend too. Would Asher just have to endure seeing Matt and Evelyn together everyday for the rest of his life?

Dammit.

The streets were pretty quiet after school. Mike and Mara had been walking for a while and they have not seen nor heard a soul, but on the bright side, they were at peace having small talk.

"So, I never asked where you live before" Mike started up a conversation.

"Oh well, I live not too far from school in a pretty rundown neighborhood" She slightly shrugged. She had her hood up and one headphone in.

Mike looked at her up and down. "You don't really have to keep them on, you know. We're outside the school, and we're friends" He pointed out. Not in a judgmental way, he was just saying what was on his mind.

She gave a small shrug and reluctantly pulled her hood off, pausing her music and slipping her headphones into her pocket.

"There you go. You look better now" He smiled sincerely at her.

Mara couldn't help but smile back, a small dusting of blush fell onto her cheeks. "Why thank you"

Mike's smile widened into a grin. "Is that baby Mara blushing, I wonder" Then he laughed a bit at her.

Mara lightly shoved him, laughing a bit. "Oh be quiet"

"Hey! Don't shove me!" He pouted jokingly.

She laughed a bit more. "Whoops. My arm slipped"

Mike looked at her with confusion. "That doesn't even make sense in this situation"

"Oh shush, it's called sarcasm, Mikey"

"Wow. Almost 6 or 7 years around the snarkiest person I know and I still don't get it" He replied sarcastically, grinning smugly again.

She laughed a bit, rolling her eyes at him.

He laughed along with her until he noticed that they were entering an area unfamiliar to him. It was pretty rundown as Mara said so he asked to make sure. "You live around here? You weren't kidding. This place is a mess"
