While Asher stormed out of the classroom in frustration, Matt was walking down the halls without batting an eye. He suddenly heard steps behind him and before he could turn, a hand gripped his shoulder.
"Was that really necessary, Anderson?" Mike demanded. Evelyn caught up to the two along with Mara, Jordi and Rose, all looking concerned and upset.
Matt looked to his side as he shrugged off Mike's hand. "Yeah, it was"
Evelyn stepped in. "Asher is your friend, Matt. You shouldn't say that about him"
Matt turned to her. "If he considered me a friend, he surely didn't know how to show it. I regret nothing"
Evelyn backed down sadly onto Jordi, who comforted her while glaring at Matt.
"That's a low blow, even for you, Anderson" Mike stepped back as well and stood beside Mara, who comforted him as well.
Matt stayed silent. Dangerously silent...
Mara, after making sure Mike was okay, turned to Matt. "That was seriously wrong of you, Matt. He is your friend and you just insulted him like that"
"Oh yeah, I forgot. Being the way he is is obviously the best way to be a friend. My bad" Matt spoke with venomous sarcasm, causing Mike to turn to him immediately. "Don't. Mara's the last person that deserves your ugly words" Mike said in a warning tone.
Mara just went silent, pretending not to care, but it hurt her deep down.
Jordi spoke up next. "They are all right, Matt. You haven't been the bestest of a friend to him either"
"Do I have to go around and tell you off one by one? I must've made my point by now! He's not a good friend, he would hurt anybody who'd get close to him!"
That last remark would move something inside Rose...
Rose glared angrily at the boy. "And by the way you're speaking and how you treated him in the classroom, I don't think you are ANY better than him!!"
Everyone flinched at the sudden outburst, including Matthew. He let the words sink in and went silent again. Eve went to comfort Rose herself.
"Don't you see, Matt? You're not just hurting Asher. You're hurting all of us" Evelyn whispered.
Rose almost collapsed in Eve's arms. Everyone else was trying to hold onto themselves.
"Come on, guys. Seems like someone needs some time alone..." Mike mumbled sorrowfully and started walking away.
Jordi glared at Matt." You'll get what's coming to you" She spat out, she then turned and followed after Mike. Mara was silently following after Mike as well.
Matt lifted his head up and saw them go. Evelyn and Rose went last after some consoling words from Eve to the latter.
Matt was left alone with his thoughts in the empty halls...
