At the end of the school day, all six friends walked out simultaneously to the outdoors. Mike had been sticking with Mara because now it was the time to go to her home.
"Okay, baby Mara. Lead the way" Mike grinned ear to ear as he said that. That new nickname is definitely sticking.
Mara rolled her eyes. "Call me that again and I'll break both of your ankles"
"Aw Mara, you wouldn't do that and you know it" Mike smirked at her.
"Don't test me" She evilly smirked back.
Mike put his hands up. "Okay, okay. I won't. No promises though" He winked at her and turned to Matt. "Gotta go, friend. See ya tomorrow"
Matt smiled at him. "Hey, good luck" Matt winked at him, causing Mike to giggle and playfully punch him.
Mike turned back to Mara. "Let's go, baby Mara"
She rolled her eyes once again. "Dorks" She started walking off in the direction of her house.
"Hey wait! I don't count, I'm coming with you" He tried to catch up to her. Matt meanwhile watched with an amused grin on his face. He was suddenly interrupted by Evelyn's cheery voice.
"Okay Matt, I'll see you tomorrow. I look forward to the weekend" She tiptoed to reach Matt's cheek and kissed it. He blushed more than usual this time around, so he was trying to pull himself together until she was gone.
"See you tomorrow, Eve" He waved at her, and she grinned and waved back. Matt watched her go with a bit of a bittersweet smile...Until he was interrupted again by a tap on his shoulder.
God, why can't I watch anyone go off in the distance peacefully?
He turned around to find Asher...looking glum.
Asher's voice had a tone of bitterness in it. "Listen, if you lay a finger on her with wrong intentions, I will make sure you don't see the light of day cause we both know she can do so much better than you. Don't mess it up"
Instead of verbally rolling his eyes like he did with Jordi, Matt felt something different with Asher's words. No, he didn't feel exactly offended because he was used to people being so brutal with words but rather he felt some doubt.
Against his better judgement, he decided to press on the matter. "Hiding something, Asher?"
"What are you implying?" The bitterness was still very much present in Asher's voice.
"I'm not sure. I'm getting more than brotherly or friendly care vibes..."
"We both know it should've been me who she chose" The bitterness formed into anger.
Matt took a moment to study the boy in front of him before answering. Asher looked ready to hurt someone, yet Matt wasn't scared. Why? He didn't take him seriously. Well, surely Asher's concern for Eve is serious but other than that, the boy seemed to act ridiculous in Matt's eyes.
"Yes. Maybe it should have been you"
"Not maybe. It should have, and I swear to god If you hurt her, I will make your life a living hell"
Matt once again, nodded in favor of avoiding a confrontation. Though, it wasn't exactly submissive, it was more like agreement.
"I got you, buddy. I wouldn't want to have flat jokes thrown at me all day. See you soon" And with that, Matthew left the scene all cool and composed but truthfully, this "talk" made him torn inside even more but he would not dwell on it until he got home.
