Eventually, all six friends were walking together down the hall but no one was saying a word for reasons unknown to them. They just assumed it was awkward or such.
Matt and Eve were walking side by side behind the other four, both of them looking to be in thought. Asher walked alone, looking rather bored and Jordi was ahead of him but she was behind Mike and Mara, who were in the front holding hands still, they were the only ones looking not so glum.
As the six friends made their way down the hall, a voice familiar to them called out. "Yo look! It's the geek squad!" Dexter's voice called out from down the hall.
At that vile voice, Mike immediately stepped protectively in front of Mara. Matt started to emerge to the front, carrying the most devilish looking glare he could muster. Evelyn stood back where she was, feeling uneasy and nervous about all of this.
Jordi stopped walking to look around for the voice while Mara moved more behind Mike. Asher joined Matt in the front despite not being a fan of him. Dexter, Rose, and Nate emerged from a crowd not too far from them.
Mike spoke up first. "You better move out of the way, idiots! I will never forget what you did to me!". Matt put his hand on Mike's shoulder just to be sure this won't escalate too quickly. Matt also looked at Asher to make sure he won't do anything regrettable later.
Asher kept his glare on the three as they approached. Nate was the next to speak up. "Awe Mikey, I knew you thought about us"
"I will never understand why you'd be so proud of people getting reminded of garbage when they think of you" Matt sneered in deadly calm at them.
Mara couldn't help but let out a small laugh, quickly covering her mouth with her hand. Dexter glared at Mike. "I think you got the wrong person, buddy"
Mike gladly reciprocated the glare. Suddenly, Matt felt a hand on his shoulder. It was Evelyn.
"Let's just move past them. They're not worth it". These were the same words Evelyn said to Jordi that one time in the cafeteria, and Matt, being even more sensible than Jordi, relented. The boy looked at Mike and Asher and shook his head, only saying two words after. "Let's go"
Dexter just smirked. "Leaving so soon?"
Asher responded to Matt with a small nod.
None of the six would say another word, except for Mike when he passed the three bullies. He was holding Mara's hand tightly. "Don't you dare touch one of us" Mike warned them and kept walking. Next was Matt, who urged Evelyn to go first and he'd watch out for her. After the blonde passed, Matt himself shot the bullies a glare and walked past them.
Jordi followed the group quickly, saying nothing. Asher stayed back for a moment later, glaring at the group of bullies before walking off.
A little bit later, just when the six made it to class, Mike eyed everyone and asked. "Wow. Did we really just do that?"
Mara gave a small nod and found her seat. She was back to her normal quiet personality. Asher sighed. "Yeah we did"
"We really just said screw you to those three and stood our grounds like real friends?" A grin creeped up on Mike's face.
"Yes, yes we did" Asher held up his fist for a fist bump. Jordi just silently sat down.
While Mike proudly fist bumped Asher, Matt went over to whisper to Mara. "Hey Mara"
She looked up from flipping through her playlist. "Yeah?"
"We were wondering if you could try to talk to Fisher a bit today. She seems a bit down and even Eve's stumped. Could you do that?"
"Oh uhm. Sure, I can try"
"Good, thanks" He looked at Eve and gave her a thumbs up. She looked more relaxed than she was earlier.
After this, everyone settled into their seats to start class.
