"Oh no..." Matt murmured.
What the hell was happening?
Mike was walking with them at the back, and he was smiling as well...only it was...less cocky and more of a happy smile.
Mara was terrified to say the least. She was ready to get up and sprint if needed.
"W-what could th-they want?" She muttered.
"I have no idea, but I guess we're about to find out the unpleasant news" He whispered back then subconsciously stood up. He was ready.
Surprisingly, it was Mike who said the first thing.
"Matt, I didn't realize you'd actually take my advice. Maybe you're not that bad of a friend after all?" He giggled, while Matt just stared all confused.
"What are you on about, Henderson?"
She stood up as well, moving a little behind Matt, staying silent.
Nate was the next to speak up.
"So, you're cheating on Evelyn, huh?" He slammed the note onto the table.
Matt got even more puzzled.
"What? What does Miller have to do with this? What do you mean I'm cheating on her?" He looked at the note and picked it up.
Horror had never drawn on Matthew's face like it had at this moment.
"This...this is...this is my.."
Mike spoke up again.
"Your secret admirer note to her. I didn't think you're the romantic type, and I certainly didn't think you were the cheating type" He eyed Mara with a hint of jealousy.
"N-no it's n-not l-like th-that!"
Nate spoke up again. "Sure looks like that"
Matt put the note back on the table.
"I didn't write this to Evelyn! It was supposed to be a writing exercise thing!" He insisted.
Dexter was the next to speak . "Then why is it addressed to her? Huh?!"
By this point, the whole room was staring at the six.
Matt furrowed his eyebrows at the question.
"What?" He picked it up again.
"Where does it say that it's..." His eyes landed on the end of the note.
With Regards,
M. Anderson to Eve
He facepalmed so hard.
"I should've wrote Evan's actual name huh? I'm such a damn idiot..."
Matthew also noted the fact that there is only one Evelyn in the school contributed to these accusations.
"Just ask Evan! I wrote this while I was with him! It wasn't for..."
"Evelyn!"
Matt turned his head around at the random voice, and sure enough, Evelyn was in the canteen with Jordi beside her.
"Oh frick me..."
Mara had gone silent, not knowing what to say.
When her name was yelled out, Evelyn wondered what the commotion was all about then she remembered.
She spotted the six that stood out from the rest...Matthew was one of them.
She started blushing slightly and looked at Jordi, perhaps for some encouragement.
Jordi gave her a small unsure smile.
"Go get em, tiger"
A slight determined look on her face, she nodded and walked over to the six.
"Right on time...Hope you ready, Matty" Mike snickered in the background which made Matt glare at him.
Knowing what was coming, He started stepping away from the group and met up with Evelyn halfway.
"Miller, I know what you're gonna say and it's not..."
She interrupted him.
"I can't believe you like me!".
"No no wait, that's not it. It was a stupid accident, I didn't mean for it to happen..."
Evelyn took a second to process what he was saying, before smiling.
"It happens with everyone, but it's okay".
Matt was flabbergasted, and before he can say anything, the bell rang and everyone started leaving...most boys glaring at Matt...
"Jeez, you could be a little friendlier..." He muttered.
"See you soon!" Evelyn chirped, then turned around and left with Jordi.
Mike was walking by and gave him a thumbs up and a wink before he left as well with Nate, Dexter and Kate.
...
No one was left except for Matt...and Mara.
"What the hell just happened?" He exclaimed.
"I-I don't know".
He sighed and turned to face her.
"Nakamura, nobody listened to me and I feel like they won't. Can I at least tell you as we walk out of here?" He sounded unusually desperate.
"Y-yeah. Of course".
He motioned for her to follow him.
