Staying in the front, Matt led the group to an empty table. However, he immediately noticed something amiss: there were only six chairs around it.
"Uh, one second, guys" He looked around for an extra chair and when he found one, he ran over to get it.
Rose smiled a little while Asher just gave him a jealous glare.
Matt came back and handed Rose the chair. "There you go"
She took it and shot him a smile. "Thanks". Asher kept his glare on Matt.
Evelyn's look wasn't that joyful either, but it wasn't a full-on glare. Just a grimace.
Matt nodded. He was about to sit down when he noticed Asher's look. "What?" He asked, completely unaware of what he just did. Mike was looking at Matt unamused, as if he was silently calling him an idiot.
Asher stayed like that for a second or two before prying his eyes away. Mara rose an eyebrow at what happened.
Evelyn moved and sat down. Mike sighed in annoyance and did so as well. After not getting an answer and being left in awkward silence, Matt nervously sat down too.
Mara sat down next to Mike while Jordi gave Asher a weird look before sitting down as well.
Sick of the suffocating atmosphere, Mike let out a cough to draw everyone's attention. "Guys, I just wanted to say something. I'm planning on going to Dexter and Nate's funerals, and they are soon and I had the idea to go all together in mind"
Evelyn looked up slowly at the words. That one day where they bullied her still stuck in her mind, but she managed to push it out and nod her head. "Of course. That's the right thing to do..."
Asher nodded as well. "Yeah..It is"
Jordi looked up from the table at Mike. "They were jerks, but I have to agree. They didn't deserve what happened". Mara just nodded in response. Rose was completely silent.
"I don't think I'll be able to come..."
It was Matt who suddenly said that, making everyone looking at him with awe.
Asher turned to him. "What? Why not?"
Mike's eyes fixated on Matt with shock and confusion.
"I'm still paranoid over what those notes mean...I'm still trying to figure it out" Matt explained.
"Matt, this is not the time to go into your workaholic mode! You have to come with us, okay?" Mike retorted angrily.
"Mike, calm down, okay? I'm sorry, but I'm not coming" Matt replied stubbornly.
Mike seemingly got stiff at the words, he just froze.
"You really should come. You can look more into that later. It's the right thing to do, Matt" Asher glared at him once again. Rose was looking over at Matt with shock.
Suddenly feeling like he made a mistake saying those words, Matt stood up. "I'll uh...I'll be right back..." The boy started to leave...
"You can't just walk off like that" Asher muttered.
"I'll go after him" Mike stood up and chased after his friend.
