The bright sun filtered through the windows and fell across Jean's face. Her eyelids twitched as the sun roused her from her sleep. A small groan escaped her mouth while she blinked the sleep from her eyes. When she opened her eyes she let out a little gasp.
"Morning, cutie. Did you sleep well?" Lisa asked with a smile. Jean was taken slightly off guard by the closeness of Lisa, their faces were merely inches apart. Jean steeled her nerves and remained where she was. She didn't want to abruptly pull away in case it gave off the impression that she was put off by Lisa or something.
"Good morning. I did sleep well, thank you for asking. The blankets and fireplace really helped." Jean answered.
Lisa chuckled. "I'm glad."
Jean's breath hitched when she felt Lisa's hand clasp hers beneath the blanket. Lisa frowned when Jean abruptly got up, her previous intention of trying to remain calm was a lost cause when she felt the tingles from Lisa's touch. Lisa would be lying if she said that she wasn't hurt by that reaction from Jean.
"Something wrong, Jean?" Lisa asked as she pushed herself up into a sitting position.
Jean stammered. "N...no. Nothing's wrong, Lisa, it's just I should probably get to work. You know with a-all the paperwork a-and other stuff that needs my atten-attention before Christmas." Lisa watched with a heavy heart as Jean swiftly left the library, no doubt going back to her office.
Lisa fell back against the pillows and sprawled her arms to her side, a dejected sigh passed her lips. She mentally cursed herself for being so forward. Of course Jean would become uncomfortable! She probably only saw them as friends and her actions were much too rushed and new to Jean.
She didn't want to hide her feelings from Jean, but she didn't want her feelings to be so obvious if it was going to scare Jean away! Lisa grabbed a pillow and smothered her face in it and let out a frustrated scream.
After Jean entered her office, she quickly locked the doors. She typically didn't do this, instead opting for an open door policy so that anyone who needed her time could get it. However, her nerves were so frazzled after what happened in the library, she needed the privacy to collect her thoughts and feelings.
Her mind was such a jumbled mess and she couldn't figure out her skittish behaviour. She liked Lisa, she really did, and more than a platonic manner. She just wished she knew if Lisa returned her feelings or if her affectionate attitude was solely a personality thing. All of this could easily be sorted if she simply asked Lisa, but Jean was too chicken to do that. Her fear of Lisa laughing at her silly feelings prevented her from seeking the answer she desperately wanted. Maybe if there was a clearer sign that the sexy librarian returned her feelings, then she'd bite the bullet and have that talk with Lisa - for now though she would remain silent.
Jean was startled out of her thoughts by an abrupt knock on her door. Lisa's voice filtered through the door and Jean froze, she held her breath.
"Jean? Are you in there? Do you think we can talk about what happened back there?" Lisa asked. Jean's heart clenched a little when she heard the sadness in Lisa's soft voice. Despite that, Jean didn't dare to move. She stayed rooted in her chair as the seconds ticked by without an answer from her.
Eventually she heard the dejected sigh from Lisa and the fading click of her heels on the tiled floors.
