It was early Friday evening, the day before Diluc's date with Emilia and he was slightly worried. Usually, at this time, without fail, Emilia would be here for her weekly drink but she was an hour late. The fact that she had always been punctual for the last several months made him feel unsettled with her current absence. Which is why Diluc had called Charles in to cover his shift while he went to find some answers.
First, Diluc went to her workplace to speak with her co-workers about her whereabouts. After speaking with them, he found himself with more questions than answers. Apparently today she had an earlier shift so she finished several hours earlier than usual; that only worried him more. His second idea was to speak with Katheryn at the adventurer's guild since she usually sees all who comes and goes through the gates of Mondstadt.
"Good evening, Katheryn." He said, when he reached the receptionist.
Katheryn smiled politely at him. "Good evening, Master Diluc. How can I help you?"
"I was wondering if you had noticed Emilia leaving the city earlier today?" Katheryn tilted her head, slightly perplexed as to why he wanted to know that but, regardless, his business was not any of her concerns.
Diluc was a little relieved when Katheryn nodded. "I did. I saw her leave the gates about two hours ago but I have not seen her return."
"Do you know where she was going?"
Katheryn shook her head. "Unfortunately, I do not, the guards might know better. At that moment I was preoccupied with some adventurers."
Diluc nodded his head. "Thank you for the information, Katheryn. Enjoy the rest of your evening." Katheryn bowed her head slightly and watched him walk towards the gate.
"Good evening, gentlemen." Diluc greeted the two guards at the gates of Mondstadt. Swan and Lawrence were startled by his presence and stood up a straighter in his presence. "Master Diluc, good evening."
"It is my understanding that Emilia journeyed outside of the city several hours ago. Would you gentlemen know which direction she was travelling in?" Diluc's eyebrow rose in question when he noticed the unsettled look that Swan and Lawrence shared.
Diluc crossed his arms. "Well...?" He asked, impatiently.
Lawrence was the one to answer him but he noticed that the knight did not meet his gaze. "S-she told us that she was going to wolvendum. She said something about needing to pick a few small lamp grass."
Lawrence and Swan flinched at Diluc's furious tone. "Are you two lacking a brain? Why would you let her go off on her own to such a dangerous place?"
Swan and Lawrence stammered, unable to give him a good answer. "You two are a poor excuse of a knight. Letting a citizen walk into danger and not doing anything about it is completely inexcusable. I will be sure to pay Acting Grandmaster Jean tomorrow about your behaviour and maybe by then you can find an excuse as to why you did what you did."
With one last seething glare in their direction, he rushed off towards wolvendum. Why on earth did she need those plants and was it so important that she had to put herself in such danger? If he finds that something had happened to her, he would personally dish out the punishment of those two 'knights'.
Diluc noticed that he was now in Wolvendum from the sudden darkening forest. Diluc was well explored in the area of Wolvendum and he knew exactly where groups of small lamp grass were located. He stealthily made his way towards the dirt road, his claymore quietly materializing in his grasp. As he approached the first location, he heard the distant chattering of a hilichurls camp.
Diluc made his way towards the cliff and pressed his back against the rocks. He inched his way closer to the camp, while remaining hidden behind several trees and bushes. His eyes narrowed when he got a glimpse of the hilichurls. Two mitachurl were sat around a fire, tending to their weapons but four hilichurls were huddled around a tree. Diluc moved a little further ahead to get a better look at what they were surrounding.
His teeth clenched and his hand tightened around his claymore's grip. Leaning against the tree, surrounded by hilichurls, was a bound and blindfolded Emilia who looked worse for wear. Diluc felt his vision call out to him as he walked towards the hilichurls, not an ounce of fear to be found within him.
The mitachurls were the first to notice his presence, they quickly stood up with their large axe in hand. Diluc's claymore engulfed itself in flames, now drawing the attention of the hilichurls. With a grunt and a wail, the group of monsters charged at him. They were no match for the fiery fury of Diluc as he quickly dispatched them.
He quickly made his way to Emilia who had not moved this whole time. He gave her a quick once over and noticed, much to his anger, that she had sustained several cuts and bruises. He quickly undid her bindings and lifted her in his arms. Without wasting any more time, he took off in the direction of the winery.
