It was close to closing time and Emilia was more than ready to finish her shift and head to the bar for her weekly visit. When the last customer was served, she hurriedly helped the other servers clear the dirty dishes and set the tables for the next day. When everything was done, she wished her co-workers a good night.
She was fortunate enough to always have the weekends off, she had every Friday she would head over to Angel's Share to have a nice drink to cap off the week. It had been a tradition of hers for the last couple months since she moved here. The night was a little chilly but not quite as cold as a winter's night. She arrived at the tavern soon enough and pushed the door open. She was instantly greeted by the warmth of the tavern and the light chatter of the patrons.
She noticed that tonight, instead of Charles, it was Diluc standing behind the bar. It wasn't that it was rare that Diluc would serve but she was certainly more used to seeing Charles. She had the pleasure of chatting with Diluc a handful of times and it was enjoyable. It was weird to admit but over the course of those conversations, she grew more and more fond of him. It was safe to say that she had developed a 'crush' of sorts for the uncrowned King of Mondstadt.
She walked up to the counter and greeted Diluc with a shy smile. "Hello, Master Diluc."
Diluc nodded at her as she took a seat before him. "Hello, Emilia. The usual?" He asked. Emilia nodded her head. Everytime she came she really only ordered the same drink, she'd get a berry and mint burst with two shots of vodka. Emilia looked around the bar while Diluc prepared her drink. Tonight wasn't as busy as usually but there were still a handful of patrons occupying the seats. Off to the right there was a group of young adventurers who were celebrating their first successful adventure.
Her attention was soon redirected to Diluc who placed her drink in front of her. Emilia thanked him to which he gave a small nod and turned around to wipe some glasses. Emilia took a sip of her drink and allowed the strong flavours to wash over her tongue. She made a content hum as the alcohol relaxed her body.
Meanwhile Diluc, who had been wiping down the glasses, unconsciously tightened his grip around a shot glass. When he heard the soft sounds coming from Emilia's mouth, he felt his body tense up and several thoughts ran through his head. It was quite a shocking revelation to him when he noticed the way he behavioured around her and the feelings that she elicited from him. Over the last few months, he had steadily gotten to know the calm and serene waitress that was also a new citizen of Mondstadt.
When she had first set foot in his tavern that one night several months ago, he was unsure of what to think of her. But over time, he learned that she was a tolerable...no not tolerable, pleasant was the better word. She was a pleasant person to be around because she was not overly talkative. She was calm a lot of the time and conversations with her were always pleasant. She didn't chat his ear off unnecessarily and when she spoke, she spoke with confidence and intelligence.
It wasn't long before he noticed that she would come to his tavern once a week, every Friday. Over the last several weeks he had made sure to adjust the staff schedule so that he would be the one to take the Friday shifts. He couldn't explain it but there was something about her that made him want to be around her. It was like a magnetic pull that he could not resist. It was quite uncharacteristic of him, but he entertained the idea of asking her out on a date. He wanted to know about her but was worried that it would have been too forward considering they had never interacted outside of her weekly tavern visits.
Diluc shook his head in mild frustration over his thoughts and feelings. It wouldn't hurt to ask, if she was not interested then it is what it is. While he had many female admirers who frequently ask him for his time, it would be the first time he asked someone else on a date. While he wasn't sure how to go about it properly, he didn't want to spend too much time overthinking it which is why he set the glass cup he was holding down on the counter. He turned around, ready to ask Emilia if she wanted to have dinner with him one night. When he turned around, he was shocked by what he heard.
"Would you like to have dinner with me one night, Diluc?" Emilia asked, breathlessly. Diluc gripped the cloth in his hand and intently watched her. He noticed that her eyes half-lidded eyes, the faint rosy hue on her cheeks, her breathless tone, and the empty glass beside her. While Diluc was a little relieved that she had been the one to ask him, but he wasn't sure if she had done it of her own volition or if it was simply the alcohol talking. That little fact made him want to decline her offer until she asked him while she was sober, just to make sure she clearly knew what she wanted.
Instead of answering her question, he plainly stated. "You're intoxicated." He calmly picked up another glass and began to wipe the rim.
He watched Emilia shake her head. "N-no, I'm not. I've been here numerous times, you should know that just one drink isn't enough to get me drunk. I'm well aware of what I'm asking you...but if you don't want to, that's fine too." Emilia trailed off.
Diluc watched her reach for her empty glass. Since there was no more liquid, she started to fiddle with it while she waited for his answer. Diluc saw no point in rejecting her proposal because it's what he wanted anyways and he could see how his silence was making her uncomfortable so he wasted no more time in answering her.
"I would like that very much, Emilia." Diluc had to bite back a smile when he saw her head shoot up and her looking at him with a face of disbelief.
Emilia stammered. "Y-you would?"
Diluc chuckled softly much to Emilia's amazement. "Yes. When would be an appropriate date and time?" He asked.
Emilia shook her head to clear her mind of a haze. "W-well, would next Saturday at 6 work? I, erm, I was thinking maybe I could make you dinner at my place?"
Diluc was a little surprised by that but made no comment. Whether they were eating out or at her home, he was just glad that he could spend some time getting to know her. "Yes, that works. I am looking forward to our date."
Emilia smiled up at him shyly and the corner of Diluc's mouth tugged up in response.
