Asami's heart hammered painfully in her chest. She pressed her back against one of the many crates that sat on the docks. She heard that hurried footsteps of the Inazuma Bakufu soldiers ran past her, but even then she did not allow herself to rest. She noticed a giant ship in the distance that looked like it was about to sail soon.
Asami cautiously looked from side to side to make sure the coast was clear. When there was no one to be seen, Asami sprinted across the dock. Asami jumped off the edge of the dock and grabbed onto the side of the ship. She carefully maneuvered herself until she was at the back of the ship. She found a small hatch and opened it. She carefully lowered herself head first and dropped to the ground.
"Ow." She whispered to herself while pressing a hand to her head. She pushed herself up into a crouching position and looked around. It appears she was in the lower levels of the ship where the supplies were stored.
There were many boxes covered by large tarps. It was the perfect place to hide in her opinion. There were so many crates in here she could huddle in the corner of the room behind them and underneath a tarp.
Asami's eyes widened when she realized something. She frantically patted her pockets to feel for the item that came into her possession. She sighed in relief when she felt the amulet in her pocket. She took it out to reassure herself that it was really there.
Inazuma was an oppressive nation; their archon lord had declared a vision hunt. Her grandpa passed away a few months ago and before he died, he pressed this amulet into her hand and told her to keep it safe at all cost. When she heard about the vision hunt, she finally understood what he meant and it put a big target on her head. Asami didn't have anymore family in Inazuma. When her grandpa passed, she was alone again. She decided that living in this fearful nation was not worth it anymore.
She had been planning her escape for the last month now and today was the day she was going to get out. Everything had been going smoothly until she ran into a guard who was suspicious of her being near the borders of Inazuma. When he questioned her, she didn't stay around. He immediately called for backup to capture her and that's how she ended up where she was now. She honestly didn't know where this ship would be taking her but anywhere that isn't Inazuma was perfect.
Asami placed the amulet back into her pocket and crept to the corner of the room. She noticed some boxes were positioned together so that there was an empty space between them. She thought that was the perfect hiding spot since it offered her cover from every direction. Asami gingerly climbed the boxes and lowered herself into the small opening. Although it was a tight squeeze, it provided her with the protection she needed. Asami found a small cloth through the cracks of the boxes. For extra protection she covered herself with the cloth so she was as hidden as possible.
After the events of this morning and afternoon, Asami was exhausted. She had been mentally alert for the last several hours to avoid capture and now that she was relatively safe, her need for rest was catching up with her; in no time at all Asami was fast asleep.
2 hours later, Asami was roused from her sleep by distant voices. It instantly brought her out of her groggy state; she was wide awake now. She held her breath and prayed that they would not find her.
"Let's just get the food and leave, Funrong." Said a deep voice.
"Sure, what's on the list?" A female voice answered who Asami could only guess was Funrong.
Asami's heart was racing as she listened to the two crew mates opening and closing boxes to gather what they needed. She forced her body to stop trembling out of fear when they were searching around her hiding spot. If they noticed a quivering cloth then they would for sure know that someone had snuck onto their ship.
