HIIII! Thanks for reading. The writing of this book progressively gets better, so be patient with that please.
FAIR WARNING- This book has underage drinking. A lot of it. But that's kind of all.
Thanks for spending your valuable time on me, I really appreciate it! :)
MC. That's my name. Well, really is it Mary Cate, but hardly anyone calls me that. Honestly, I think that name is a monstrosity.
I'm in an uber, heading to my house. That seems like a pretty normal thing for a teenage girl to do, but not for me. I just got back from boarding school and summer could not have come slower.
Sadly, I won't be able to see my parents yet because they are in New York for work. Oddly enough, they are there with my best friend's parents as well. They are all department heads of the same company though, so it makes sense.Anyway, at my house, my best friend and her twin brother have been staying there with my younger brother because apparently that was the best living arrangement that our parents could come up with. All of us in one house. I guess if we burn down this house, then we will still have another one to go to.
The uber driver lets me off and helps me with my luggage all the way to the door. I have two big black Calvin Klein suitcases.
I ring the doorbell and wait until I hear some footsteps shuffling inside. I see my best friend open the door. "Kendall!" I scream in a high pitched voice. "MC!" she says in a more surprised tone.I hug my best friend tightly, remembering this feeling from so long ago. She shouts, "You're finally home! It's so good to see you!"
I shout back, "It's feels so good to be home again." I close my eyes and breathe in the house. I can actually smell that smell that people say we have. I'm not even familiar with my own house's smell.
She lets me in and helps me bring in my suitcases. I see my brother sitting at the island. He turns around and widens his eyes, clearly not expecting to see me. He jumps up and runs towards me. "MC!"I give him a big hug while saying, "It's so great to see you Prescott!"
I hear someone say, "What's going on?" as I see Jack walking down the stairs. Jack is Kendall's twin. Seeing his face brings back quite a few memories.
Jack says, "Wendorf? You're home?" as he comes up to me and gives me a quick hug. I had forgotten about that charming nickname he has for me. Wendorf is my last name but only he calls me by it. I didn't think it would continue though.
I reply, "Hey Harris," making sure to emphasize his last name.
After a few questions about boarding school, I say, "I love talking with you guys, but I really should unpack." Everyone nods, seeming to understand what I am actually saying: I am exhausted.Jack quickly says, "I'll help you carry your suitcases upstairs." I nod and follow him up the stairs with him carrying one suitcase and me carrying the other. I'm surprised he was so willing to help me. It's not like him.
We roll them inside my room and he wastes no time, "How was boarding school, Wendorf?" he asks. That was quick.I answer sarcastically, "It was great," while I start to unzip my suitcase. I'm not really in the mood to talk about boarding school right now.
Jack says, "Are you staying here the whole summer?"
I answer with a sigh, "Is that a problem?" I can already hear my old sass in my tone. I got to say, it feels good to not have to watch my tone anytime I talk.
Jack smirks, "Nope," as he walks out of my room. He's so strange.
I look around at my room. It looks the exact same as when I left it. Not one thing has been moved. I'm getting a strange feeling in my stomach. It's like the chips I had this morning are trying to come back up the way they came.
Eventually, I get bored of unpacking and go downstairs. Everyone is so casual about me being home. For me, this is a big deal. I haven't been here in months. For a moment, I thought I would never be back here.
I open the fridge and look for anything. I haven't eaten since before the plane ride. I take out some fruit because that was like the only thing in the fridge. We have got to do some shopping soon!
While I spoon some fruit into a bowl, Jack walks over and chuckles to himself. "Get used to healthy food because that is all Kendall buys." he says quietly.
I sigh, "That'll change." He raises an eyebrow then goes into the pantry. I can't even believe that the two boys in the house won't buy themselves food- oh wait.
I sit on the couch and join Kendall in watching The Good Place. I wasn't allowed to watch much tv at my school so I haven't watched much of it.
Jack and Prescott join us throughout the episode. It feels so normal, almost like I never even left. Except that, everything has changed since then.
