Protector, Killer, Savior, Shooter
Andrea still hadn't moved. It had been all night. Lori tried to talk to her, so had Dale and Glenn. Nothing seemed to wake her up from the emotional state. I sat a few feet away, stabbing my knife into the dirt and wondering when Amy would come back. They all did eventually, Amy wasn't any different just because she was my friend. I hadn't seen it happen, not really, so I didn't know how long it would take.
I got up and went to find Glenn, dropping my knife in my pocket and shuffling up the hill. I knew he was taking care of the bodies with most of the others, maybe as some kind of distraction from what happened last night.
Glenn tossed a walker on the fire, dusting his hands off when he saw me and turning me around. "Hey, you don't need to see this. Sophia's in the RV, why don't you go talk to her? I'm sure she could use a friend right now."
Ed died last night. I couldn't even feel bad when I saw his mangled limbs and torn face. He got what he deserved, what more could I say. I didn't think Carol and Sophia were even particularly upset by it, maybe they even felt some sort of relief.
I dropped my glare to my shoes, digging the toe in between sandy rocks. "Why not? I've seen it before. You think it's different because we knew them? It's not." I spat, biting my tongue to stop myself becoming more angry,
Glenn took his gloves off and knelt down in front of me, his eyebrows drawn sympathetically. "Listen. I know Amy was your friend. You're allowed to miss her. It's okay if you're upset."
I shoved his hand away from me as he reached out, my eyes narrowed furiously. "I am upset. Andrea lost her little sister. That's all she had left. I'm sick of this world making people alone." I swallowed hard when my voice trembled, the rage dissipating into sorrow.
Glenn sighed and rubbed his forehead, his eyes gleaming genuinely. "Listen to me. You know you're not alone. Andrea's not alone, I'm not alone. We lost our family, but we still have each other, right?" His hands were on my shoulders, gripping insistently to get the message across.
I nodded reluctantly, knowing he was telling the truth. "Right." I shrugged, reaching up and taking the hat off my head. "I guess you want this back now?"
Glenn took it with a smile, pulling it firmly over his hair. "I see you've been taking good care of it. I got you something from the city, remind me later- hey, whoa, what are you guys doing?" Glenn shifted his focus away from me, pacing around me quickly.
I turned to see Daryl and Morales dragging a body to the fire, the fresh blood from a bite pooling in the dust. I didn't know his name but he had been around camp before- I think he built the fire pit. He was one of ours.
"This is for Geeks." Glenn protested, waving to the fire. "Our people go over there. Our people go in that row over there." Daryl and Morales stopped, looking at Glenn as he pointed to the row of dead.
"We don't burn them! We bury them. Understand?"
It appeared they did as they dragged the man to the others, albeit reluctantly.
Glenn sighed sadly, his hand on my shoulder as we watched them roughly place the body down. "Daryl is an asshole. He doesn't care about any of us." I muttered bitterly.
"Hey, he saved you last night. I owe him for that." Glenn insisted, smiling down at me.
"A walker got him! A walker bit Jim!" Jacqui shouted to the camp, running to whoever was listening. Everyone immediately stood in preparation, Daryl pointing his pick axe at the man and instructing him to show us.
Glenn hid me behind him as Jim got out a shovel, planning to use it on anyone who stepped closer. They yelled at him to stop, to put it down, but it wasn't until T-Dog restrained him that he finally spoke.
